How do you "shop" around for a doctor?

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to find a good dermatologist. There isn't like a review site or anything. What do I do? Check the yellow pages for local dermatologists and randomly pick one from the list?

If that didn't net any results then I'd ask friends and family.

Do you have a doctor? Call and talk to his/her nurse and see who they recommend. Any family/friends in the area who are nurses or work in health care? People in health care know who the good doctors are.
