How do you ship things after selling them on ebay??

I have some stuff I'd like to throw up for bidding, but I have no idea how to calculate shipping. Most auctions I see already have a shipping cost up...but how the hell does the seller know how much it'll cost beforehand? you obviously know the weight of the item, and what size box you'll put it in, but then if you have a ton of stuff to sell, don't you have to wait in line at the post office and have them tell you how much each individual item will cost to ship? If you have like 40 things to sell that seems prohibitive so clearly there's a step I'm missing here, can someone help?

If you go through th USPS, you could do those flat rate boxes. Than it doesnt matter where it goes. I normally would do free shipping. At most it would cost me like 15 bucks to send it from NM to the east coast. UPS, and I would imagine the others to have it, has tools on their website to calculate price based on size and weight.

^^ I 2nd the flat rate boxes. Go by your local post office, and pick a few up of each for free, then you'll know exactly how much it'll cost before shipping (for things that will fit, obviously).

As an aside, I like to limit my dealings to specifically within the 48 states, I hate the shit out of shipping out of the country.

I usually use the flat rate USPS boxes. Can just go to your local PO, pick small, medium and big ones up for free, then go home and see what size box you can fit your item into.

Then I use the USPS online shipping and print out my labels. You get a small discount for doing so, and you can just go to the PO and drop the box into the bins. No standing in line ever, screw that.

Haven't used UPS in a long time, but back when I did it would calculate the shipping costs for the buyer and then add it to the total. Then you can print the labels yourself also. Shit is pretty easy these days.

When you create your listing, you will also be choosing what shipping options you're providing, and the buyer can then pick from what you've listed.

i usually search ebay at similar products and see how much they charge.

saves the time of going back and fourth asking questions.

unless it's a huge item people just factor it in. i think ebay even sorts with the shipping added now.

but when i sell i just come up with the highest reasonable number i can. i.e. if i think it's 15-20 bucks to ship something, i'll just call it 20 or 25 and call it a day.

i come up with a reasonable price that also covers shipping and say its free shipping. use flat rate boxes make it simple. Have the boxes with labels all packaged and ready to go so all you have to do once sold is jot down the address on the box and send it out.

just make sure you pack it well, plenty of newspaper or whatever to reduce the risk of b.s.

If i'm not using USPS priority or priority flat rate boxes, I will usually just estimate the shipping as best as possible.

You can also get estimates online from UPS and Fedex.

Guess and look at comparables, if doesn't fit in a flat rate I'll reuse amazon or Newegg boxes and ground ship.
