<< Just curious - why are you waiting for your HD to die after just 10 months? Especially if it's giving you no such indications? Personally I just pensioned off a 4,5 year old Maxtor I used to use for backup...and it was still as healthy as ever! >>
Because right when I bought it (I was going by a DIY PC article from THG), that family of IBM drivers started dying on people. So, I panicked (wouldn't you?). I didn't want all my files, the majority being 16.7GB of mp3s, programs I've downloaded and music videos, to be gone. I mean, I can't back up all that stuff. I know I have DSL, but that's a lot to redownload.
"I've never seen the point in making tons and tons of slices for mp3's, games, etc etc, just makes it harder to get a good overview."
<< Not to mention a pain in the butt if you want to resize. You must either copy back and forth and reformat or use a third party software such as Partition Magic. It's so much less time consuming to move a few folders around as opposed to partitions. >>
I have to agree with this as well. I mean, the time it'd take to do all this. Plus, the resizing...no use putting your HD through all that...
