How do you set it up so that the PC automatically logs onto the net?

I am not at the system, so I can't check it out myself, but a friend of mine just reinstalled his OS, and wants to set it up so that his PC will log onto the net automatically when he first boots it up. He's called SBC Tech Support 3 times, and they all say that he has to sign on before he goes on the net each time he boots up his PC.

I thought you could set it up nowadays to automatically sign on...

His domain for his email is sbcglobal.net.

Running XP.

Tell him to buy a DSL Router. The router will logon automatically and maintain an open connection.

He will need to uninstall/disable the PPPOE software on his PC. The PC will get just be connected as a regular TCP/IP connection to the router.

The thing is, I have had clients who have SBC DSL here in LA who do not have to log on when they boot up their PC. However, I think it has to do with which modem they have. I believe the Speedstream modem is the one that will allow that. Not sure which modem my friend has, but since he is expecting to be on the net all the time without logging on, then I am assuming that was the way he had it set up before he had to resintall his OS.

as stated above ^^^ disable pppoe on the pc, you may have to set up the modem with the function "ppp on the modem" through it's web based application.

uninstall all that sbc yahoo software crap that came with the pc since that's probably what's causing the issue in the first place.
