How do you save/remember your passwords?

I've been thinking about this for a while now, and haven't come up with a good solution. It seems like every web page you go to these days requires you to sign in, and of course they all have a unique username and password. I was wondering what other people did to remember these passwords? I've done various things to just plain writing them down, to using the same password for everything, etc.. But I was thinking there has to be a better and more secure way of storing passwords..

For example, is there a way to save them all to a file and encrypt that file so nobody else can open it? While I figure that would not be the best idea in the world, at least you could name it to something uninteresting like setup.exe and even if someone did hack you system, they would still have no idea what the file is for..

Anyways, just looking for ideas.. I can't keep all my passwords straight anymore!
 
I have about 5 passwords I use for stuff. They all have various uses. For instance I used 1-2 passwords for all of my banking information, and then I have one password I use for all message boards, basic websites and stuff like that - so I never have more than around 5 passwords total and since I know I will use the same password on anandtech as I'd use on a similar sort of site then I never forget them.
 
I just use MS Word to maintain the login ID and passwords along with the website they're for, then password protect the Word document for "Open" privileges, but I keep forgetting the damn open document password...haha j/k
 
I re-use the same password as well, which works good but often sites (Anandtech!) require you to pick a username instead of using your email address for your login ID.. so you need to remember the username as well.. If you only login every once in a while (Especially if you have your system to autologin), its hard to remember..

That's why I have the same username in many places as well or a slightly different one, or a tiny variation on the password.

Sometimes its just not possible to use the same username though, especially on large sites..
 
if its just for registering for lame sites, I just use the same password.

And for some reason I am still using the password assigned to me at anandtech even though it is jibberish and hard to remember. I guess after typing it in a couple of times its easy to remember: rbpudytz see not too bad.

 
I have the weird ability to remember numbers and number sequences after looking at them or saying them aloud a couple times. I remember PIN numbers I haven't used in yrs. My son, is even cooler, they think the kid has almost a photographic memory 🙂
 
It's easy - I take a string very easy to remember, compute the MD5 signature and take the
first characters.
The only drawback - you only get 0 to 9 and a to f characters if you use a hex-mode showing

I use this:

Whisper32

Then I store the password protected file on a CD-RW disk to keep it safe from the outside world.

Make sure if you're running XP, that you read the bottom of the page for the WinXP update, otherwise it can be a pain to use.

I just set all of my passwords to password. Same goes for the root account on the firewalls I deal with, all the logins, and all the e-mail accounts. Makes it real easy. 🙂
 
i put them in a file, then make an encrypted (password protected) zip file & delete the original file securely,
so i only have to remember one very non-intuitive password.
 
I have mirror image of all my usernames and passwords tatooed on the underside of my togue. That way if I ever forget, all i have to do is look in the mirror.

Anyway, back on topic, I use the same few passwords on all my stuff.
 
I have one password to require the ultra long requirements. ***********

I have the one that has a punctuation mark, capitol letter, and numbe: *******

I have my universal password for all others: *******

I have my password that others can use *I.E. An account on my computer or for network sharing* : starcraft

🙂 Usernames, NOBODY ever takes Kelvrick but me. 🙂
