Just wondering how most users run their case fans. If you use a fan controller, under what circumstances do you change the speed or do you just set the intake faster than the exhaust or vice versa?

Curious about this.

I have a controller. Whisper quiet when surfing/listening to music and full speed when gaming.

I became curious because I got somewhat spoiled with how silent my P180 is with the 120mm fans on the lowest setting, but then i thought maybe I could speed them up buit it's loud (compared to when they're set to low) and I was wondering how everyone else does it. I suppose I can hook them up to my Vantec Nexus fan controller I have sitting around.

Usually, the only fan I hear is my YL D12SL-12 at 12V, but when I can hear it it doesn't really bother me, so I don't care to undervolt it. The power supply fan stays inaudible most of the time.

2x 12cm panaflo's 100~ cfm each, one in front of the hd's and one behind the cpu sucking air away the instant its blown away from the cpu cooler.

and of course, the stock intel cooler.

My CPU and rear fan (both 120mm arctic cooling fans) are controlled by my motherboard's temperature sensor to increase with cpu temperature. This way, they stay really quiet at idle (around 800 rpm) and only speed up a bit while I'm gaming to around 1000 rpm. Still quiet, but keeps temps at a respectable level. My front 120mm Yate Loon and VF900 are 5 volted with no variation. I like quiet. :D

I am hearing impaired so I have fans blowing full force 24/7. Only drawback is that there is ALOT of dust accumulating inside and on the grills :)

2 silent 120mm fans (one front one back), with a very silent Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro (w/120 mm fan), plus a huge heatsink on my vid card.. it's quite silent, my gf's laptop makes more noise than my computer. :)

I'm looking to replace the chipset fan with a passive solution to lower the noise.

I use the bios to control when the fans go full speed, which is rare.

Most of that is just what you're accustomed to. If you used the high setting everyday, you'd become used to it to the point you wouldn't even notice. Then if you dropped them to low setting it would seem unbelievably quiet - even more so than now.

If your looking for less noise & don't want to purchase additional euip, you can 7 volt the tri-cools and set them on MED...they WILL start reliably that way and it gives you a bump below their LOW setting. I just use 4 Nexus @ ~750rpm @ idle and Speedfan chunks them up to ~1050rpm when the temp I set (42C) gets breached.

I run my new system quiet, although the fans move tons of air they are really quiet.

I use to think my old computer was a little on the loud side. However after comparing it to my new one, my old one sounds literally like a jet engine. It's weird because I have never really compared it to anything quiet before and all of a sudden its like night and day. I'm glad my computer came out real quiet because it would suck having my old computer volume here.

Well...lets see..... I've got
4 case fans
1 on the PSU
2 on the Video card
1 on the SI-128
1 on the PWN IC area
1 on the HR-01-SLI
10 fans (I'd probably put more on but I've run out of room).

All fans are either automatically controlled by PSU/motherboard/video card (Total 6) based on temperature, or on a fan controller running at a fixed lower speed (Total 4).

I've got a pair of high CFM Panaflo 80mms at about mid speed (halfway on a Vantec controller) - barely audible, but pulling a nice cool breeze in the front and throwing a nice warm one out the back. Other fans are PSU fan (variable based on PSU temp), a CNPS6000-b Cu at 2700RPM, and a VF900 at full speed too. Pretty quiet rig. My 2.6Ghz 3000+ tops out at about 48-49C load. I've got my 7900GT at 575/1720 and haven't seen crashes, but I haven't done any volt modding or really pushed it hard enough to know if it's 100% stable or not. I'll do that this winter when I have more computer time.

Thanks for the responses. I was always wondering how many people go for quiet vs max performance (and yes max performance usually means loud).

Using SpeedFan and slowed down stock Intel HSF on my E6400 to 900 RPMs. Also have my GPU fan running on 5V. The 120mm fan in my PSU is very quiet already.

Well i prefer to use 120mm fans for good and silent cooling. My other comps i just modift the 80mm fans to run off 7 volts.

Main comp has
2 * 120mm fans @ 1200rpm
3 * 80mm fans @ 2000rpm
1 * 140mm psu fan (silent)
1 * 120mm cpu fan
1 * 60mm fan for voltage regulators
