How do you rename a drive letter?

Just installed a new HDD, and I want to call it "D:"

The problem is, I already have a DVD and CD ROM called D and E so I can only choose F.

I assume I can rename the DVD and CD to E and F so that I can anme the new HDD to D when I partition, Right?

It would help if you mentioned what OS you were using. I will assume you have WinXP/2K.

Go into Disk Management (easiest way is to right-click My Computer and choose "Manage"; it's under there). You can right-click individual logical drives and choose to change their drive letters to whatever you want.

OK Got the drive letters changed... What about the drive descriptions? I can change the HDD descriptionds to "Programs" and DATA", but what about the DVD and CD drives... This don't seem to be changable... Right now my CD shows up in my computer as: WXOEM_EN (F🙂.

It's not the end of the world but it is annoying. what gives?

That's because you have a CD/DVD in the drive; when there is a disk in there, the volume name changes to the name of the volume stored on the CD/DVD (I don't know if there's a way to override this; try in the Operating Systems forum). If you take the disk out, you will be able to change the name of the CD/DVD drive.
