How do you reformat a mac?

Need to wipe clean a mac hd of data before giving it away, how do you do this? Not familiar with macs.

Boot up with a Disk First Aid disk. Or an OS cd. On the disk you should find a program call Drive Setup or something like that. This program can format the drive. Use the "low level format" option and check the "write zeros" box to more securely erase the drive.
