How do you quit a job?

It's my second job and oh man, when I was fired from the first one it really broke my heart. No kidding. It was like losing someone in a family. I hate my present boss, the job, but I don't even think of quitting till they bump me out themselves (if they do). I just don't want to go through all this again. W/o job I felt like I lost my hands, literally.

Passing up a promising position because you can't give two weeks to yer current job isn't very smart IMO. I know you don't want to screw yer current employer but the days of loyalty and businesses helping those who've helped them are over. If your current job was going to lay you off/fire you would they give you two weeks notice? No. They would give you a pink slip at 10am and tell you to be about by 5.

Being curious, loyal, and a hard, honest worker are attributes that will help you on matter where you go. But there is a point where those attributes will hinder rather than help you and you always need to be aware of that.

re: giving two weeks notice.

I have never in my life given any notice at all. Employers did not then, nor do they now, give you two weeks notice that they are laying you off. I have never felt that there is any reason to do more for the company than they would do for me. If you are in upper management or an executive it would be different. Most of us here are not, though.
