Its nearly 1 and I have to get up at 6:30...but I'm not tired at all...just laid in bed for an hour to no avail...what do you guys do in this situation?

Drugs are not an option

Listen to Art Bell :)

Edit, its not that Art is boring. Far from it. I just like to listen to the sometimes (usualy) whacked out people.

NPR. Bores me to sleep every time. Or try reading in bed; makes me sleepy enough to crash.

Cold medicine if I really want to get to sleep. Otherwise, I just wait for myself to pass out.

If I have to get up in 2 or 3 hours, I end up just staying up alltogether. Im more alert that way, and will sleep better the next night.

Soak my head. Really, just run the tap over your whole head as cold as it'll go. Helps me sleep when I can't seem to get there normally.

Let your mind wander, but avoid stressful subjects.

e.g. How to landscape your yard; how to get past a certain video game level

Works for me.

I always have trouble sleeping too ... however the first thing I do is I get off of my PC. The second thing I do is lay down in bed. The third thing I do is close my eyes.
I recommend you get off of the internet, then lay down in bed, and third, close your eyes ... hopefully that wall be a good start
.....................................

OK seriously, take some Benedryl or Tylenol PM (it has benedryl in it) or something with Diphenhydramine in it. Usually with 2 benedryl tablets, I can go right to sleep in like 15-30 min.
If that is not available, drink a glass of whiskey, vodka, rum etc ... make it a big drink, but don't over-do it. You want it to hit you hard and fast .. but you don't want to be sick in the morning.

If you are a non-drinker, then try to void your mind of thoughts ... think about nothing, or think about the most boring thing you can think of ... hopefully that will do the trick

I heard that rubbing one out will usually help........not that I would know from personal experience of course.

Hammer + head + Pound Pound Pound = sleep (or, something relatively close to that)

Of course, I wouldn't do it, but if someone else is asking for recommendations . . . :D
