My office at work seems to have a problem with static. Virtually every time I touch something metal after getting up, I get a shock.

Today I picked up my memory stick to access some files, went to plug it into a USB port - and as it approached the PC, a spark shot across the gap - and the memory stick is dead. Same thing, happened a couple of weeks ago with another stick.

As I use the sticks a lot for storing files and moving files about, I'm looking for a solution as I'm burning up sticks at an alarming rate.

Could be that you need to check out the static source. Does it happen all the time regardless of what clothing you wear? Maybe you should get a conductive floor mat under your chair and ground it.
