and what do people do in an auto?

Neutral drop or brakeload (other names for it too). Former is retarded and will kill your car. Latter isn't retarded, but will still hurt your car. Specifically, the transmission and the torque convertor in that order.

- M4H

also why the hell do people with autos think they have a manual when they have D4, D3 etc? They think that since they move the shifter, they drive a stick? Wouldn't that also make it slower, and would it hurt the car?

that is where the 'Type-R' badges come in.

Fvckin right. Those electric BOVs add at least 10hp too.

ROFLMAO! I actually laughed pretty hard on that one🙂

Today in the parking lot I saw an older civic with an, "exhaust," which was basically a sheetmetal covering that was shiny over the stock exhaust, and on the rear bumper it read, "Think b4 U try it!!!!!!" I laughed for a good minute😛

Up on the SLK forums, somebody asked about a BOV, and someone linked to a BOV which is a speaker you attach to your car to make the sound. WTF!!! Text

Errr...S2000. I'm 24 now and this was last year and I was 17 (in the brain 😱)

I went with a couple friends to a dealership where one wanted to test-drive a used 350Z. The salesman saw my car and asked if I wanted to follow.

When my friend drove, me and him leap-frogged on an empty stretch of the Oklahoma turnpike for a little bit where the speed limit is 75...basically showing off the acceleration to the other drive. One time, he tried to pull away and I caught up and passed him, achieving the speed noted in this thread.

Apparently, the salesman got kinda angry at his product's poor showing and stuck my friend in the passenger seat because he wanted a piece of me 🙂 (This isn't to say every S2000 is faster than every 350z. Of course I'm going to drive a car I've owned for 2 years better than a car someone is driving for the first time).

Anyhow, the salesman revs on me and launches. I smile and wave him off because I don't like doing that to my car. He revs and launches again to which I again did nothing.

Then, he revved a third time and that's when my brain got infected with stupid...because I revved back, on up to 7000 like I'd heard other S2000-drivers say you're supposed to do. And uh...I guess it worked because I took off pretty fast (with a little wobbling...remember that I'd never launched prior to this time)

FWIW, I guess I won the drag race but in the end, we were both losers 🙁

Oh...and another FWIW, my friend didn't end up buying the 350z 😉

Good. I don't like 350z's. Mostly driven by punk kids who think they are the most special people on Earth. You have my support🙂

awesome story. Hows the S2000 in colder weather/snow? The SLK doesn't like snow😛

Heh...I'm not so proud of that story...

It's good in any kind of dry weather...in the cold, I just turn on the heater and put on a beanie 🙂

I've never driven it on snow and almost never in the rain...I got a beater for those days 🙂

Everyone suggested that you redline the car and then feather your clutch. that's how you get the best launch.

but doing that, you are slipping your clutch real fast.

To get the best torque for my car (90 Supra turbo), i just put it up to 3k rpm and drop the clutch. my car pick up like a bat out of hell and pretty much instant turbo boost right away. but that's also bad for your tranny.

Either way, if you're racing, you're killing your car no matter what you try to do.

heheh.. i agree though-- plenty of punk ass kids driving around with them. What is really funny is all the aggression towards G35's over at the legacy forums... Its like the east verse west coast rap wars.

That works fine since your car has low-end torque. Mine really doesn't have a whole lot.

3k rpm = "low end" :Q
Yikes.

I don't even have my license yet nor do I have a car--
but, i get to drive this:
1973 Volkswagen Beetle
195,000 miles
40 hp (approx)
4 speed stick
light blue
🙂

Relative😉 Like my other posts state, my car lives between 5 and 7k🙂

First, you buy a front-wheel-drive Honda, paint EVERYTHING white, and put Audi tack-ons everywhere so everyone knows you're driving an Audi.

Second, you load the ass end down with a huge feckin spoiler that doesn't push the ass end down at higher speeds (read: isn't functional), just weights the car down at lower speeds because it's just extra weight --so much so that it lifts the front of the car up, away from the pavement so you can lose traction because of the front-wheel-drive.

Third, you put some lights all over your car -because lights make your car faster... some guy told me once that they do, so you should do that.

Forth, you should put a second muffler and tailpipe on the car to make everyone think that you have a V8... in your HonAudi.

Fifth, disregard people who point and laugh at you when they see steam coming out of only one tailpipe when you're driving in colder conditions.

Sixth, lower your car so that it's more aerodynamic. With all that power under the hood that the Type-R sticker gave to your 4-banging HonAudi, you're going to need to stay as close to the ground as possible so that fvcking huge WING on the back of the car doesn't pick your car up and fly you away.

I rev to about 4k, then release the clutch quickly. I don't drop it, but just quickly release it. No wheelspin, and a decent pickup. Don't wait too long to fully release the clutch, if you wait too long, you'll burn it out. If you the clutch out too quickly, you're going to hurt the transmission and probally get wheelspin. I can probally release it a bit quicker, or rev a bit higher.

Of course, this depends on your car's powerband, and tires. This is off a 1.8L with pretty decent tires. The car is a 1994 Miata, and it's peak power comes in at 5500-7000rpm. With a bigger motor, you're likely going to have to rev a bit lower to reduce wheelspin. I personally havn't done this on the street, this is just how I launch for the start of an autocross run.
