Sherlock Holmes.

(please note this isn't an America vs England thread, it's not differently pronounced in either country it's just different from person to person as you ask them)

Some say Sherlock "Homes" some say Sherlock "Hol-mes" including the L.

I didn't read Born2bwire's post but I assume it was some pathetic troll post. Can anyone confirm?

After seeing it quoted I disagree. But that's open to interpretation.

There's a porn star called Sherlock Holmes?
No, Homes for Sherlock, Holmes for the porn star. One can not conclude that the porn star's first name is Sherlock, but could infer that the last name is Holmes.

Perhaps, although given that the thread was expressly about "Sherlock Holmes" I could correctly infer that you were answering this question rather than one roughly related to it.

And both were accomplished. I didn't want to lead you to the false conclusion that I always pronounce Holmes as Homes. In fact, Sherlock is an exception to my normal pronunciation of the name. However by giving only one counter example I probably was not clear on the point as the reader would not be able to ascertain which pronunciation was the rule and which the exception.

Ahh that makes more sense perhaps in future to express this more clearly the post could have read "I pronounce Sherlock Holmes as Homes and Xxx Holmes as Holmes" [Where Xxx is replaced with the porn stars name]

are you simply trying to reach 10k posts as fast as possible, and then celebrate with some kind of wild exit post? Trying to go down in flames so that it is burned into our collective psyche for years and years, a la a few other notorious grand exits?

Just wondering. I want to be around for that.

Sorry no, I don't care about my post count at all.
