I dated a girl from Pennsylvania, she pronounced it "Woo-ter." That was the weirdest damn thing.

It's a southeast PA/Philly thing... not the Commonwealth at large. I say "wah-ter" unless I'm around Philly friends when I'll jokingly use "woo-ter."

wha-ta

I don't have an accent at all for the most part, but my Jersey really shines through when I say water of coffee.

This. The Philly area has a lot of retarded pronunciations.

Though this coming from a person who speaks Pittsburghese like it's his job. :)

(I don't say "warsh" though for wash like many other people do around here).

Oh? That's a Pittsburgh thing too?
I wonder if it's more a thing of our area of the Appalachia region. I have family that live in Southern Ohio that do the "warsh" thing.
And when I went to Gettysburg a month or so ago, the tour guide said "Warshington". I cocked my head and thought "ohthatsob". :D

Many accents annoy me, but that one little "trait" of adding an R like that, irritates me like no other.
Speaking of accents, that Southern-drawl is actually one of my favorite accents. This coming from a guy who has no accent. (the US media accent).

Maybe he meant PA area, which isn't quite east coast but isn't really central either.

PA is Mid-Atlantic.

Oh man.. Pittsburgh's accent is sooo much worse than Philly's. :) It's like "urban-redneck."
