I've got a PYT that's going to be working under me next month as an intern. Her first name is Hui. She will call me by my last name and I will call her by her first. So, anyone here who speaks Chinese know the proper pronounciation of this word? Is it pronounced "huee"?
Who-ee (thats how *I* would pronounce it)

also, what rakehellon said

You sure it's not her last name? The surname's at the front in Chinese names.

If it's her last name, I'd guess she's from Hong Kong or Guangzhou (Hui is a Cantonese last name). I'd say it's close to saying "hoy"

But you could just avoid being weird and ask her how to pronounce it... she might end up telling you to call her by some other name anyway

Spooky's right. I speak Mandarin.

Where are you located? I know a Hui who recently came to the States. It would be a somewhat bizarre coincidence if it were the same person.

NYC. And she just got her masters in econ from a school in Mass.

Pretty sure it's her first.

So ask her next month.

I'm asking now.
