How do you pronounce "SLI"?

It drives me crazy that you would say "sly". I've never even considered that, and can't imagine why anyone would.

I think sly is a bit confusing.

I pronounce SMG as smug, and some other stuff. Everyone says WYSIWYG as "wizzeewigg", right? You wouldn't say Double-yoo, why, ess, eye, double-yoo, why, gee - would you? No, it's far too drawn out. Same for me with S-L-I. If you say S-L-I fast enough to compete with "sly", then you might as well be saying sly anyway.

I have a problem with S-L-I because it's a difficult thing for me to put together. Just the way I talk... saying S-L-I puts my tongue is a knot. The L gets mutalated unless I clearly articulate(which is too much work). And there's nothing wrong with my speech, either, it's just easier for me to say sly.

All acronyms are said as individual letters, unless they're supposed to be a word, like NASA or NATO. 🙂

Being a complete foreigner who picked up a few words only it never occured to me to pronounce it like "SLY". I alway pronounce the individual letters: S-L-I. Of course it's your language after all 🙂

There are a lot of "S-L-I"ers here. ^^

Anyway, since others are doing it, I'll just say my pronounciations, too:

SLI = "sly"
ATI = A-T-I
AMD = A-M-D
IDE = I-D-E
SATA = Serial A-T-A or sometimes S-A-T-A
SCSI = "scuzzy"
USB = U-S-B
Nvidia (though it's not an acronym) = "en vi (like the "I" in "it") dee uh"
And since mezrah mentioned it earlier: NAACP = N-A-A-C-P

I also added a third answer to the question in the poll since fishbits asked about it earlier.

Touchy aren't we😛, That maybe your preference and I agree with most of it, with the exception that sah tah is, while not the only way to say, accepted world wide as a proper prenounciation for Serial-ATA. In fact its better accepted then SCSI was originally when whats his name who developed it (and I belive founded Seagate) thought it Scuzzy sounded dirty and didn't want people to use it.

It's S-L-I.. not sly. Kinda brings back the UNIX and Linux pronunciation arguments of the past I've had. 😉
