How do you pronounce "SLI"?

So, how do you pronouncd "SLI"?

For me, it's "sly", like the word meaning cunning.

It drives me crazy whenever I hear someone say "S-L-I", with each letter said individually.

EDIT: Added the third answer.

Pretty much any acronym with the exception of SCSI is done by each letter for me.

U-S-B

A-T-I

Serial A-T-A

I-D-E

S-L-I

Even SCSI I'd prefer to call S-C-S-I, except that everyone would look at me funny if I did that.

Why did you pick "sly" over "slee?" Out of curiousity, how do you pronounce ATI and AMD?

Ess Ell Eye. Won't be losing any sleep over it though.

Uhhm... ATI = 80 HAHHA 😀

SCSI=scuzzy
ATI=A-T-I
NVIDIA=enn vidd e uh
IDE=I-D-E
SATA=satta (as in satellite)
USB=U-S-B

If there's a vowel sound inbetween I pronounce them as if they were a word.

Fixed.

Because I is EYE, not EE.

ATI=A-T-I
AMD=A-M-D

A to the T to the I (why do I sound like snoop d o double jizzle now)

S to L just slips off my tongue easily, but not A to T. A-Tie, 80? Nah....A-T-I. 😀

this reminds me of the recent issue of BusinessWeek that has a feature story on Jonathan Wendel, a.k.a. "Fatal1ty". They have a disclaimer in the article that his name is "pronounced simply Fatality" and that it came from the popular Mortal Kombat game. I thought to my self....huh? How else would people have pronounced it? Fatal-One-Tee? 😕

I say to 'sly' two cards together. It's so long and drawn-out to say you 'Ess Ell Eye' them together. I might say S-L-I as a noun to someone who's never heard of video cards before.

Hmmm, how is it that you can speak for me? I am pretty sure I said the following "Pretty much any acronym with the exception of SCSI is done by each letter for me."

everybody has their own preference. Some people pronounce acronyms as a word (like your sly) or each letter (U-S-B) and soem words need to be a combination (N-double A-C-P). No rule can apply to every one out there.
