How do I say ATI?

"A" as in ape, and "TI" as in titanium.

However I'm far more likely to refer to ATI as "rushed to market (9700 Pro), standard breaking (AGP 8X) , driver cheating (QUAK) junk".

I said the "n" in nevada, not the "ne". Its also like the "n" in number (not the "nu" just in case you need that pointed out to you also).

and obviously, it's vidia, not video but apart from the kast syllable the pronounciation is the same.

Greg
We are the knights who say "NE!"

My understanding was always enVidEuh, like envynews, enlighten, etc...
Funny you responded.... How do you say ati anyway? ey-tie?
No it's A-Tee-eye. That's a hard A, like 'eh?' for Canadians. And a hard T like T-Shirt or golf Tee or Long Island Ice Tea (not a soft one like in 'Th' sounds) ... assuming a consonant can actually be interpreted as hard and soft.

You don't think the NV30 is being rushed to market? If they had chips to sell, they would be. As for driver cheating, NVIDIA does this too, the det 40s 25% increase in performance is primarily only noticed in benchmarks.

Yomincron, I can't let that one go. The Detonator 40's have a higher 3DMark 2001 score than their predecessors because the drivers dramatically improve the pixel shaders on the Geforce 3's and Geforce 4 Ti's. You probably won't notice a big difference in games since most games don't use pixel shaders- yet.

You think that's driver cheating? Go to Madonion.com and compare a Radeon 9700 score to a similar system with a GF4 ti4600. You will see that all the scores are neck and neck, EXCEPT for the Pixel Shader test in which the ATI has an extremely high score, making it bench much higher than the GF4.

So if you think nVidia is involved in driver cheating, they must have learned it from the ATI :)

TDK's VeloCd is my favorite.

Veh-low/see-dee
Vee-low/see-dee (in one of TDKs promo tutorials)

Had 2 of 'em for months before I realized it's Veh-lah/see-dee (i.e. velocity,as in speed)

seeing as how the project has been pushed back and pushed back repeatedly, i can hardly call that rushing the market...

I'll let nVidia themselves do the talking...
http://news.com.com/2100-1040-966103.html (from nfs4's thread)
Nvidia designed the chip using a newer, 130-nanometer manufacturing process. This "put the schedule behind what some people might have expected," Vivola said. But "there wasn't any reason to do it sooner. A (150 nanometer) version wouldn't have been a good enough improvement over the (GeForce4 Ti) 4600."

Nvidia "would have loved to have had it sooner. But we haven't lost a single point in desktop market share in the last three quarters," he added. Nvidia's market share increased to 58 percent during the third quarter, according to a recent report by Mercury Research.

I had a friend who would always pronounce it "en-vee-duh" We stopped correcting him after and while and just let it go. He was an ATI loyalist anyway, so maybe he was just doing it on purpose!

At first I thought this was a silly thread, but it's really a good idea. Most of us see these names in print all over the internet, but hardly ever get to use them in normal conversation.

I do think it's pretty silly.. cause it's semantics that people are arguing over. Is tomato prounounced toe-may-toe or toe-mat-toe? Does it really matter? If anything, it should be kept in off-topic and not in general hardware, or better yet, go talk to an English professor at a local University.

I could care less about 3d mark, personally. I've had 3 Geforces in a row, and my next card is about to be a 9700 pro, not because of better 3dmark scores, but because it totally spanks the GF4 in every single game benchmark I've seen, especially when you turn all the eye candy on.
That being said, if I find a GF4 4600 for cheap enough before tomorrow, when I pull the trigger on the Radeon, they are also plenty fast so I may get one of them instead.

Oh, and I and everyone I know pronounces it IN-VID-E-UH. Not Na-Vid-E-Uh, as someone else said.

This reminds me of a couple of Rodney's video reviews (3dGameMan.com) I have watched. Talking about the NIC, he just said it like it was a normal word (pronounced like "nick") but when referring to SIS, he pronounced each letter (S I S). He also referred to 8x AGP as "Eight times a g p", and I always said it like "Eight ex a g p."

I think some smart person out there should publish a "Dictionary for the Computer Enthusiast."

If that were the case, then we'd be pronouncing it "invidia".

I think most people agree on "N" "vidia" (en vid' ee uh)

Of course, as with many words, within the U.S. you must allow for regional differences in accent and pronunciation.
