it's hard to tell what you are trying to say when you have it all in caps...there's no way to tell where the emphasis is.

I believe it should be he-row-SHE-muh

Well, they don't pronounce the r sound as harshly as in english. It's more of a mix between an L and an R, but not so blatantly "Lo."
I believe the correct pronounciation has emphasis on the "Ro" so it'd be hi-RO-shi-ma.

well if you look on www.m-w.com, under pronunciation they have both versions of it. But on the audio byte of it, the guy pronounces it he-row-SHE-muh. But I'm sure either way is fine.

On another note, if Japanese has any rules close to Spanish, the emphasis goes on the second to last syllable...so it would be he-row-SHE-muh. But I highly doubt they have the same rules

Emphasis is not on the second to last syllable. The Japanese tend to "hurry through", for lack of a better description, anything ending in "shima" so it's almost more of hee-ro-shma in practice (with a very slight "ee" sound between the h and m).

Also, as I understand it, they don't really have emphasis on their syllables at all.
