How do you pronounce Hauppauge?

Hauppauge is a town in NY on Long Island. Hauppauge is pronounced HOP-HOG. The American Indians dubbed the area around the headwaters of the Nissequogue (NISS-I-QUOG) River Hauppauge; it means, ?overflowed land? in the Algonquian language. Hauppauge boasts a large industrial park, home of many well-known companies.

I feel so owned. I've always pronounced it Hawp.pidge

I was born not far from Hauppauge, and I can confirm that it is pronounced "hop-hog"

I used to pronounce it "hop page" but in Italy it sounds better... I don't think the shop assinstant would help me if I asked for an "hop hog" tv tuner :D
By the way, their tv tuner is really cool! I've been using it for almost an year now, fantastic :)

Long Island (lawn-guyland)

If you say Lawn Guyland, you're just a moron.

Hey I didn't say Strong Island... and I was just making fun of the accent here.

I always said "Hup-pawj" Learn somethin' new every day.

Yesterday I learned not to put my nipple on the toaster.

I lived in Lake Ronkonkoma (god that took a while to remember how to spell and pronounce) and I heard it pronounced with the second h as silent.

I can confirm this. I've had reason to speak with quite a few locals on the phone for my job, and I've never heard them pronounce it any other way.
