Yeer-O is a Greek food, Jye-Ro is a mechanical device.

err well the only "gyro" that i knew before this thread was the mechanical device... not some greek food

Heh you are missing out. Yummy!!!

Love how all those fools come out thinking they owned somebody when they themselves are just so beyond clueless.

Jebus there are people in the world who don't know what a Gyro is?
Maybe Deeko can attest to this - there is a dude who runs a grease truck near Drexel who sells Greek stuff (Saltpeppaketchup?) and he got so pissed at people calling them Jai-Ros that he actually changed the sign to say "Yeero"

heh.. my mother in law calls those "jap-a-leen-oh peppers"

thats like people pronouncing gyro wrong... its yeer-o, not guy-row or gye-row

Gyro

pwned

I think that's refering to gyro as in "gyroscope". It's yee-ro. My Lebenese office mate will attest to that...the G is silent at the beginning of most Lebenese words.

As for fajita, the J is pronouced like an H in Spanish.

I say Fa-hee-ta.
But I don't judge people who say fa-jee-ta.
Why? Because it's America, and the correct way of pronouncing fajita in English is fa-jee-ta. Just because they say Fa-hee-ta in Spanish speaking countries, doesn't mean we have to say it that way.
For example, I call Renault re-no-lt, and Peugeot pew-got, even though in France, they are ree-no and poo-zho.

So you would go up to a guy named Juan and call him "Jew-ann"? It's a Spanish name. If you want to use an American English name, use "meat wrap" or something.

It's "fa-hee-ta". "J" is usually pronounced like an "H" in Spanish (e.g. Jalapeno).

Gyro is "yeer-o". I've heard that "gyro" means "sandwich" in Greek and isn't even a real Greek dish. Can anyone confirm this?
