My final system setup will actually be three totally different systems with three 2005 fpws.

Why?

Well that way I can download on 1-2 of them, burn cds, backup hard drives, have tons of applications running on the left and the right one and still keep the center one free for whatever I am doing at that time. Even with a Athlon 64 there are still quite a few apps I use that bring my system to a crawl, well to a crawl if I try and do anything else while I am doing them. So having all three networked and accessible from the other two will be perfect. Got two set up now and working hard on the third one so should be pretty nice once its all finished. Of course this much power will not be needed all the time but when it is needed its sure nice to have it.

Once you've used dual screens you really can't go back. I've been using a 21" CRT and a 19" LCD for a while now (CRT for gaming, LCD for everyday use) and I really couldn't imagine going back to one monitor. Photoshop, for instance, just cries out for dual monitors . . . and the fact that you can watch a movie on one monitor and still type, surf the web, etc on another monitor is simply awesome . . .

like you say, it's something that once you've experienced for a while, you can't go back ;)
I prove that statement false. I used dual monitors for about a year and really found myself not using the second much. It was more of pain just worrying about it being on a still image for too long, wanting to turn it off when playing games since I wasn't using it anyway, etc. So I went back to one screen.

burn-in doesn't exist anymore ;) Current drivers don't take any real hit having the second screen running in games, and it's useful to see if anyones chatting to me/i get any emails/monitor my temps/mem usage if i'm overclocking/trying a new game...but if you really didn't use it then i'm impressed, i've never heard anyone else come to that conclusion so far i have to admit.

You know, I'm not so sure about this anymore. When I was playing UT earlier (on a map with a mostly single color sky), I could swear I could make out the faint image of some lines at the top of the screen exactly where the top of my Firefox window always is...I thought I was just imagining it but I don't think I am now.

For home use i can't see the need; but at work it is an imperative. i use two of the 19" Dell LCD's and i am happy with them... Nice to have email in main window and management utilities/remote desktop open on the other.

I've used two LCD's for the past year or so and I also can't go back. One screen is nice but two is even better - it's especially good for research projects, etc where you can read articles and whatnot on one screen and type with the other.

It's also good when you're taking a link off one site that you are currently reading as you can look back and forth between the two.

Also, as said, you can do a lot more stuff when gaming - keep an eye on temperatures/CPU usage (if that is your thing), run MSN and see messages, etc.

I tried to use it in the past but it was not that helpful.

well, i used 19" as the main and 17" as the secondary. whenever I play a game on my main, the placement on 2nd monitor will shift quite alot..

what are you using to control 2 mointors? my vidcard is 6800 with dbl dvi out btw.

It works for me because I don't multitask. But hey, I think I'll try it out now just because you mentioned it. :)

Ugh... my 6600GT won't allow me to do dual monitors per se, but rather use both as one monitor that spans across two. I don't think that's how it's supposed to work, is it?

You know, the concept of the virtual desktop exists. Even you Windows people can take advantage of the concept nowadays. ;)
