I grew up in upstate NY and moved to SoCal when I was in my early 20s. I don't miss NY at all.

I can't imagine living where you do. It's flat as a pancake and all the land looks the same. I would be seriously depressed living there. I need to be close to the water and can't imagine living so far from it. I've been out on the ocean out of site of land in 360 degrees and I imagine that would be kind of what it's like to live out on the great plains. Just flat land as far as the eye can see.

We have have sex. Lots of it.

Oh, and we vote republican to piss off people like you. :p

I am republican...although, with the crap this legislature & President are doing I'm thinking of switching parties. Maybe the Libertarians would have me? :p

Only if you value individual rights and freedoms over the "collective good." :D

Seriously, though. I wsas born and raisedin CA. The beach is over rated. Though I do like the weather out there, I can't stand the people.

Move 2/3 of the people out of CA and I may consider returning. :p

Having never known any different...but I like it here in Michigan. I'll move away after I graduate, but there's a distinct chance I'll raise a family here

Seriously though, swimming in the great lakes (Michigan) is better than swimming in the ocean...for one they are cleaner, and it doe not leave a salty aftertaste

I've gone swimming in Lake Michigan and Lake Ontario, I wouldn't want to get any of that water in my mouth either.

I live near the ocean and I've been to the ocean maybe 2 times within the past year or two. It's nice to know that the ocean is nearby but it's not a necessity.

Hmmm. Let's see. Right now from my Chicago office building, I can look out my office window, see an unobstructed view of Lake Michigan to the East and Southeast, Millenium and Grant Parks to the South, Soldier Field and the Skyline to the South and Southwest and downtown to the North. Not a bad view IMO. After work, I'm a short walk to the beach and parks. If I want hiking and wildlife, it's a short ride to Illinois playground: Wisconsin.

Hey, there's a forest in my back yard that's never been on fire. Go Ohio.

I don't know how they do it either.

Nebraska
Again
One more
Sure, no ocean, but it's not like the poor example you picked... I'm sure California has places that look just like that Kansas pic.

Yeah, I picked a pic of Kansas that illustrated my point, but if you're posting the best of Nebraska, I can post the best of California, again, one more and get way better scenery. :p

Honestly I don't know if that's the best of Nebraska, just one of the places I've been to here. It's a big damn state, hopefully we've got other good stuff. Just showing that not all of the midwest is flat as a pancake and dull as hell.

Only 80% of it :D

Never lived further than walking distance from the beach, except during college, when I was within biking distance :D

After living most of my life in Florida, I can't imagine going back to living with all the old people, congestion, and crime problems that are common to living near any coast.

I'll take the flat boring plains any day. Crime is low, the cost of living is low, and it's peaceful and quiet. Your priorities change, besides, I got enough sun in my younger days that I now look 10 years older than I am. The sun really fvcks up your skin. My hands look like they belong to a 70 year old.

The answer is simple. Lakes and rivers. BTW the entire midwest is not flat, maybe Kansas but the rest is anything but.

Edit: from St. Louis, Missouri.

I've lived in so cal all my life. yea the beaches are nice to hang out at and great scenary. But dam I haven't swimmed at the beach for years. They're just way too polluted. At huntington beach they even post signs up a few times a year saying the water is unsafe to swim in. Now swimming in Lakes, I like. No sharks in the Lakes :)
