How do you pack your shoes?

Whenever I have a short trip (1 week or less), I check-in a suitcase and carry-on my backpack. Sometimes I put a pair or two in my backpack so they don't get all crushed but is there a better way to go about this?

I've been thinking of adding a wooden divider or something into my suitcase so the shoes can sit at the bottom when it is standing up but not get crushed.

I usually just use a plastic bag, and wrap my towel around it and put it in suitcase.

Divider sounds good, though.

Depends on the type of shoe. Sandals I wrap in a plastic bag, pack with everything else. "Tennis shoes" I stuff with socks to retain most of their shape, wrap in plastic bags and pack. Dress shoes I pack in a hard-sided box so they don't get smashed.

I usually take ~3 depending on where I'm going: Sneakers, which I wear on the flight/drive; sandals, which I throw in the pocked of the suitcase/bag; and semi-dress shoes, which I put in the main part of the suitcase. I don't wrap them in anything, I just separate them and put them to the side to save room.

shoe trees to support structure of the shoes
put shoes in a shoe bag to keep them from getting clothes dirty

My 22" has little mesh pockets for one pair at the "bottom" (large side). I'll usually have at least one or two more pairs with me, so I just put them in a plastic bag and pack them properly. It's only a few hours and I hardly ever travel with my best shoes, so I'm not that concerned.

I will have to ask my people how they do this. When I arrive where I am heading they are already unpacked and lined up for me.

I am assuming some kind of cedar insert, then wrapped in velvet and placed in individual corinthian leather pouches.

My fucking shoes take up too much room (size 17), so they stay out of the suitcase. The wife packs hers in a small bag containing all toiletries, no clothes.
