do you use itune to organize your music/albums? i got a collection of mp3s i want to organize and am not sure what program to use. what do you recommend?

Music Folder \ Artist \ Album \ file

iTunes is the devil. Just do it by hand. It's not that hard.

I just kept up with it as I got it, so I wouldn't end up in your situation.

The only time I ever use my music is by using iTunes though, so it doesn't matter that my music is organized.

I'm very angry that when I loaded itunes to try it out it completely screwed up my 30 gb music folder. Is there an easy way to revert it? I don't know why I even considered leaving WMP...

Music / Artist / Album / Tracknumber_songname.m4a(apple lossless)or.mp3

I don't use iTunes to organize my shit, I rip with EAC and it does everything, I just add the album art.

For batch organizing I can't recommend MP3Tag enough. This program has saved me so much time that I feel a twinge of guilt for using it for free (software is free). Try it, learn it, love it. It's great.

Only program I use for tagging MP3s.

I'm actually fully happy with WMP. Is there something special about that foobar business?

No. WMP has far better library functionality. WMP 11 is awesome, WMP 12 is even better. Foobar has some cool plugins if there are specialized features you really need, and it's skinnable, but I have no reason to bother with it over WMP.

But don't let the name fool you, no only is it amazing for tagging MP3s, it's also freaking awesome for organizing your MP3s into folders correctly.

hmm... i am using winamp now.

since you guys are here, is there a way to copy only the playlist songs to a folder/music device without having to do it manually by going through each folder?

As far as folder structure goes, I stopped trying a long time ago. Besides, zune places the music in an organized manner regardless of how the files are stored.

Ah, but I am also awesome at putting them into the right place right when I down......err, rip them legally from my large collection of CDs.

I agree. WMP 's library structure is... flawless in my opinion. I can sort through my 30ish GB with ease. and since that's 90% of what makes a good media player (imo), I'll probably stick with it

Music\Artist\Album\# - trackname.mp3

I do it manually though.. I don't get new music often enough for it to be a problem.

I use TheGodfather for tagging files.

Music \ Genre \ Artist \ Album \ File

I am completely OCD about it. I won't move any music into the proper folder until it is fully tagged.

I have 4 main folder in my Music folder.

Rap
Rock
Electronic
Metal

This is a *very* vague and generalized classification. Within each I go by artist\album.

It makes it easy to just grab a folder and drag it into Winamp. Sometimes I just want to hear Metallica type music and sometimes I want to hear Snoop Dogg. If I went strictly music\artist it would make it a bit more difficult to do. Yes I could set up playlists but then I would have to update playlists when I get new music etc etc.
