At first, I justh ad them in alphabetical order with artists name in front. They're all in the same format. Artist - Name.mp3.

After a bit, I then organized them by language. After that, I seperated the english songs into 4 Catagories. Trance Dance, stuff without many words. Love/Soft, Rock/Heavy, and the rest of the stuff, consisting of pop and rap and stuff.

Go with a good folder organization. It will make your life alot easier. What kind of collection do you have? Is it from many different styles of music? Is it a bunch of singles or whole albums?

<< i got singles and albums...all sorts of crap!!!! >>

well, for singles you could go with music genre and then for the albums, you could have album folders

c:\mp3\artist - album title\track # - album title - track name.mp3

Full albums only, ripped using EAC, encoded @ 256k using RazorLame.

I use a script called Andromeda and I run them off my server so if I have a internet connection anywhere in the world I can stream my MP3 colloection w/o having to store all of them on each computer.... It really does a nice job.

good question. but i think that my way of organizing is pretty practical:

first, i make a bunch of folders with typical radio stations (varies for everyone) such as kroq, star, kiis, power, etc (for those of you in southern california).

secondly, i make a folder for all the artists i have w/in the radio station folders. for example, if i have linkin park, i would create a folder for linkin park in the kroq folder. then i stick all the songs by linkin parkin in the kroq/linkin park folder. i label each song artist.title.mp3.

third, if i have the entire album, i create a folder for that album w/in the artist name. for example, for hybrid theory, all the songs are in kroq/linkin park/hybrid theory/(all songs).

i guess the preference is different for everyone, but i think my way is pretty organized.

My method is very simple, and it is how I organize my approximately 380 MP3s, which come from all different places. ;)

\My Documents\My Music\artist\Artist - Song.mp3

The reason I do the artist twice is because sometimes the songs get separated from their folders, and it makes it easier for me to put them in the right places.
