How do you manage your passwords??

There was a thread ~5 years ago in this forum:

How do you manage your passwords? It had 30 posts. I don't want to revive it, a lot of water under the bridge.

I need to change my passwords now. I'm wondering how I might best go about this. Obviously I have to go from site to site and change them. Most people probably don't use password management software, even "techies" here. There are some programs out there, I got some positive ideas about Last Pass (there's a free version) last I looked into this. Is that easy to use, a good idea, better than a well conceived and simple personal methodology? I've heard of Roboform, a few others. What do you do and why?

Piece of paper and pen and keep it safe. 😉

Or you could just keep them all the same and see what happens.

There are techniques you can use to vary your password from site to site, which can really help if one of the sites gets hacked.

I use Lastpass. I like it. Just remember not to leave your browser open with Lastpass logged in.

Plus, it works with the fingerprint scanner on my laptop.

With my brain...😛
Sometimes it takes a few guesses but its rare I actually forget it.
If you need to have them stored use long, easy to remember passwords. (read they mean something to you)

i use a password generator and change my passwords every 3 mos like clockwork, store them in a text file hidden deep inside my pc with a no extension, so it looks like a system file. never had a problem.

da brain. Only have ~10 though. I also have some combination locks about 5 I have memorized so 15 things is nothing compared to memorizing Ochem reactions back in the day.

KeePass. Makes it easy to have passwords that are very hard to guess. Slightly annoying to update the file between computers, but I don't have to trust a website with my passwords.

I only have a few passwords that I use, but I add a prefix for each site.

Say my password was password:
atotpassword
gmailpassword
ebaypassword

Just separate by level of importance. Really important things like my savings accounts and 401k get a more complicated pass. Sites like this forum get a pretty simple one I use often.

If I don't remember, I just go through the 30 sec it takes to email a new password. Have to do that every time I check my HSA account cause they force you to use certain character combinations I don't normally use, and I never remember what it is.
