how do you make coffee?

whenever I try making coffee, it tastes awful. I like the type of coffee where it's brown and it tastes sweet when compared to black coffee. how much coffee beans/sugar/cream should I add to make coffee that tastes like that?

According to the Starbucks method, you need great beans, great water, and right proportions. Get some medium-bodied beans like Columbia Supremo or Kenya. Grind the beans right before brewing for maximum freshness. If you're using a press or drip it's usually one tsp/4oz H2O, varied depending on your taste. The ground coffee for press should be coarse, with little fine powder, whereas the grind for drip is more smooth, with less coarseness. Never use tap water. Use bottled or filtered water. For a press, wait until the water reaches a boil, then pour directly in, and set a timer for four minutes. For drip, try to use a gold filter as those tend to have better results than paper filters. Do all these things right, and you'll have great coffee to add cream/sugar, according to your tastes.

Hot chocolate is brown is sweet. Maybe that will suit your tastes better. That's what came to my mind first.

I walk up to the counter & say "18 oz mocha, 4 shots of espresso, & raspberry syrup." Comes out perfect every time.

Speaking of coffee, they just added an espresso cart in the cafeteria. The chick who runs it is damned cute, too!

I use a Braun coffee grinder, use 8 O'Clock French Roast beans. I have a scoop which probably equals approx. a teaspoon (maybe a little more). Put 5 rounded (or heaping, depending on how strong you like it) teaspoons of beans in the grinder, grind 'em to powder (about 20 slow seconds...), put it in a paper filter, fill the coffeemaker up with Brita water (as much as you can put into a 10 cup coffeemaker), turn it on and do something else ( like visit the Forums🙂) for 20 minutes, and Presto!.

I like my coffee sweet (use a tablespoon & 1/2 in a 12 oz. mug) and creamy (use whole milk). Experiment until you get it exactly the way you want it! I do love my coffee!!!😛 -kd5-

1 spoon per cup plus one for the pot... Start with that and adjust to taste over the next 100+ brews.

I *really* like the coffee from those plunger type brewers. The drip coffee ain't the same.

Beans make a difference - fresh ground is better (grind your own).

Time is important too - if it sits too long it gets acidic...

Personally I think Starbucks coffee blows (their regular coffee, not that expresso/whatever stuff). It is *way* to acidic 🙁...

just to clarify, when I said beans, I meant the stuff that is sold to consumers such as foldgers, etc...the little, crushed beans 🙂

Take 1 tablespoon of coarsely ground kenyan beans and 4 oz of hot, pure water

1.Place beans in mouth
2.Chew thouroughly
3.Pour water into mouth
4.Swish
5.Swallow
6.Ahhhh, no sleep for a while

I get in every morning, first guy. Pot of coffee:

1) 8 cups water
2) 10 heaping teaspoons of maxwell house finely ground

People say its good...

ok, seriously, I don't know how to make coffee and some of you are giving me BS. but for others, I don't know if you're serious or not (like skoorb - you sound serious but 10 teaspoons sound like a lot). so let's cut all attempts at being funny and give me some tips on making good coffee.

The beans you get at Starbucks never brew up the same as the store. I don't know what they do to get that strong a flavor in the store. I think it's the 1/2 gram of tar heroin they add to keep you hooked that gives it the in-store edge. 😉

dwell,

Now, didn't you read what he just wrote:

You are referring to a "pump" machine. That is how the best coffe is made.

I am serious. That stuff is addictive. I grab a grande every morning on the way to work. On weekends I skip it. By Sunday night I have all the same symptoms as a heroin addict, the shakes, headaches, dehydration. It's so bad my doctor told me not to drink the stuff. Screw him though, I'm hooked 😉

So in all seriousness, if someone can tell me how to make it that good at home you could really save me on the weekends. 🙂

I used to work at Starbucks, so Nero my first post is a serious one. If you're going to drink instant, then you're going to get crappy coffee. If it's already ground, then it's crappy coffee. Freshly ground, bought regularly, is the best way. You don't have to get it at Starbucks. You can get your beans at any supermarket. They usually have grinders in the store, next to all the filters, non-dairy creamers and beans.

In response to dwell, part of the reason it never quite tastes the same is that the automatic drip coffee uses totally purified water (reverse-osmosis, I think) and the water is heated just shy of boiling. This extreme heat, combined with pure water and freshly ground deep roasted beans gives you that strong Starbucks coffee taste. If you want the same at home, you should get the Aroma coffeemaker. It brews at that heat, whereas your regular Krups or Braun does not.

I don't make coffee, I get Tim Horton's almost every day! :Q Extra large with one cream, no sugar.
