How do you like your Galaxy S3?

Just want to get some opinions. Things you like and things you don't like?

One question from me:

On my old Samsung Epic 4G I loved how I could just press and hold down on a calendar entry, it would "undock", and then I could drag it around to another time slot.

I now have the Nexus and I can't do that with the stock Google calendar. I have to physically click edit, edit the entry, tap in new digits, etc.

Does the GS3's calendar still have drag-able calendar entries? I see that it's been revamped a bit since the Epic 4G.

The large screen. No longer need to squint like i did with my 4s. I got rid of my tablet and just use my sg3. Much peppier with everything that I need to do compared to my old Asus tf101 tablet.

I love every aspect of it. The screen, the camera, the shape, the everything! Best phone I've ever had, and I had a Gnex very briefly before this one.

Why do you like it more than the gnex?

If it was running stock Android I'd definitely have one instead of my Galaxy Nexus.

It's inevitably got better hardware. Better CPU, GPU, camera, better audio. Almost better everything.

Though, I miss having stock android and that everything was so damn smooth with the Gnex.

Looks like you can drag and drop events in the stock calendar on day or week view.

I'm rooted running SynergyROM on my vzw S3. There have been quite a few annoyances from Vzw or Samsung, like the WiFi notification or defualting to 60% volume every time you plug into the 3.5mm jack, but I've modded all that crap out, and added things like a quick WiFi toggle in the drop down notification menu.

Nice, thanks!

I know that in the past there have been issues with the GPS not being able to pick up satellites without a cell signal. For the captivate and epic 4g at least, GPS would never lock if there weren't cell towers nearby. Or it would take a really long time, like 10 minutes. When it has service, bam, GPS lock in a few seconds. Does the GS3 have this issue as well? Seems to be a Samsung thing.

Not sure exactly how to test that since I always have a cell signal, but I did turn on airplane mode, turned off GPS, cleared RAM and all apps, opened Google Maps and turned on GPS and it took like 10sec to pinpoint my location.

The GS3 should have an improved GPS receiver. It also is compatible with GLONASS meaning that you have access to 24 GPS satellites + 24 GLONASS satellites. I took my gf's SGS3 and turned on gps status and it connected to 17 satellites in no time. The lock time should be faster and more accurate.

I didn't do an indoor test, but in general some buildings suck. My SGS2 won't lock for crap in my gf's house even with AGPS. Seems to take a while. Outdoors I'm ok though. You should be able to lock without cell signal. I know this because I've tried on phones without SIM cards inside (Motorola Milestone and Samsung Nexus S)

No, that was Galaxy S thing. All original Galaxy S variants except for T-Mobile Vibrant 4G had defective GPS hardware. Samsung lied and tried to coverup the faulty hardware with software tricks but GPS never worked all that well. The only reason Vibrant 4G had working GPS was because Samsung and T-Mobile quietly discontinued the original Vibrant with faulty GPS after 6 months and released Vibrant 4G which had different GPS chip than all the other Galaxy S. It still boggles my mind how Samsung was able to get away with having faulty GPS and not forced to recall and fix all the handsets.

GPS works fine on Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3.

GPS also works fine on the Galaxy S II.

eh.... actually i'd say the SGS2 is just about as bad as the SGS1 gps receiver but ok.... the SGS1 issue was mainly a software issue with the US stuff. I have tested on my friend's i9000 and my Nexus S and compared those to my SGS2. It's not really much worse.

Actually, the original Galaxy S GPS issue was largely Google's fault, after they forced Moto and Samsung to rip out the integration with Skyhook at the last minute. I believe the original Vibrant did have a nasty design flaw (metal back = no reception, didn't Asus remember this!?) as well, but i9000 GPS worked fine with mature firmwares.

Anyway, that's ages ago. Current Samsung models don't have GPS issues.

I use it everyday going and coming to work with no problems. In fact, I've completely stopped watching traffic information on TV or listening to it on the radio because of it.
I stopped using my Garmin GPS for now because my brother and mother are always hogging the thing and I'm tired of asking them for it or looking for where they put it.
I've been using my phone for GPS exclusively for almost 4-6 months now, if not a bit longer.

I still miss my Garmin GPS which has all the accurate info about exact positioning of red light camera and speed traps info. :(

Not sure if I agree with this. I have a Fascinate with a custom ROM and the GPS is almost nonexistant. And by almost I mean it doesn't work unless you are outside, have downloaded the latest GPS file from GPS status, and wait for 2-5 minutes for it to lock in.
