How do you like Return to Castle Wolfenstein?

Just got the game, so far so good. Not Half-Life, but not completely dumb either. The textures and level design are excellent, but the engine is beginning to show it's age. From what i've seen so far, it's a weak 4/5.

It is ok, but nothing special, would be better if I had a better graphics card (DAMN YOU MATROX!), but the gameplay is dull, you are basicly just going from one point to another with no sense of story behind it.

Anyone else feel that the intro was a bit.. diablo'ish.. "hero" fighting diablo, banishes diablo using a glowing rock.



and btw.. I´m going to play a bit now 😉

anyone know how I can enable cheats? when I type in god it just says the server does not allow cheats?
 
that was a short play, I quit when I accidently shot someone who said "dont shoot" and then it was game over.. DAMN THAT GAME.. and I was even using god mode

Comparing this game with Halflife is just wrong, there is no story in this game.
 
I just got this game today. So far, after a couple hours, I like it.

It's not the best game ever, but it's fun and the graphics and sound are nice. I like the weapon sounds a lot.

 
You're right Czar, it sucks. I mean, what were they thinking when they designed a game to take advantage of the latest hardware! Damn! And it's not even fun to play using god mode! What a buncha fools 😀
 
I love it, I am on Chapter 6 I think and it kicks soo much ass........but like you said before d1abolic it is not good as Half-Life... 🙂
 
Is it worth selling my Matrox G450 dualhead & buying a GF2/GF3 based board for? I tried Q3A on my system once & it didn't like it very well...

Of course I was also trying to run it in SMP mode, has anybody tried RTCW in SMP mode? With a G450?

And I really don't see the point of running these games in SMP when you have a G450. You're limited by your video card anyways, so it's just asking for problems...
 
I'm on Mission 6, Part 2 or 3. Love it...isn't, in my opinion, very "Wolfenstein-ish", as you have a lot of cantact to the rest of the world and aren't just out there to survive, but I suppose it would be hard for them to incorporate that into a decent story.

One thing that bugs me though, is that it's like "Agent Brokovich(sp?) is the only man who can do anything and is better than them all so we are going to send him out on every mission we have and hope he isn't killed off"...you know, too much like they treat you lke a super hero in the game than just a lucky soldier.

Oh, and those damn Uber Soldat's...! 😀

I give it a 4/5. I am really having fun with it. The engine is kind of aging, I get about 70fps on my Ti200, dual tbird 1.4 with everything on, including FSAA.

yeah story err... sucks, didnt like Half-Life story either...
your basic FPS... Fun Game, will last like 6-7 hours.
I heard muiltplayer is good... did'nt try it yet and dont plan on it either. (56k User).

r_smp 1 crashes the game on me 🙁 I am not too upset because it never really did anything under Quake 3 either.
 
Well i've finally finished the game. A little disappointing i must say. At times, it was unbelievably great, then again, sometimes it just plain stunk. All the sci-fi really ruined it if you ask me. But overall, it was an interesting experience.

The good: Graphics, sound, level design
The bad: Story, weapons

Gameplay: 8/10
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 8/10
Story: 5/10

Overall: 7.5/10

One last thing, the two missions that required the player to remain undetected were amazing. I played them both several times - i can't get enough of them. They are the reason i give this game 8/10 for gameplay, otherwise it would probably be a weak 7.
 
Eh, I forgot where I am. I know I'm pretty far though. Umm... past the cobra plane. Oh! I just got past the sub mission and am in the secret weapons base. I didn't write spoiler because I didn't consider those things a spoiler. It is pretty fun. I like drawing a lot of people under me, enabling god mode, and then sniping them all off. I think they need another smg gun. One is too inacurate, one is so limited on the ammo, and the other has the stupid ass overheating. The paratrooper gun is the best.
