how is the edge of the rotor even staying there?

i've seen someone grind through one side of a rotor and into the vents, and i've seen non-vented rotors about as thick as construction paper. but not that. i'd wonder how it would even have any hydraulic fluid, as the piston probably would've ejected itself from the caliper.
