How do you know, or keep track of your CPU temperature?

I know that you can see it on one of the BIOS pages. I also have a program from SiSoft in the UK, called SANDRA, which will show you the MB and CPU temperatures-once you enter the program and navigate to the proper page.
Surely there must be a small utility somewhere that could display the temperature on your desktop or toolbar in real time-though I suspect showing the temp while playing a game like Doom or Half Life is probably out of the question.
So how do you folks know what your CPU is doing "under heravy load" etc.?

There are many other temperature monitoring programs. I use CoreTemp because it seems to be fairly accurate for Core 2 Duo.

Most hardware monitor programs like the one that came with your mobo take little in the way of resources. You can reduce the resources further by lowering the sampling rate (how often it goes out and updates its readings).

..bh.

RMclock on my Opty - because coretemp plays nasty with with my DFI Expert.

CoreTemp / TAT on my QX6700

I never use the mobo diode temp anymore. Cuz your mobo says 30C dosent mean your coretemp is 30C. It usually 5-7C higher.

Intel TAT for Core 2 Duos. Log the temps. Import them into excel. Create a colorful graph. Show it to your friends.

Become a social outcast.

But yeah, Thermal Analysis Tool.

I get the same temps in Speedfan (listed under Core) and CoreTemp (which I believe is the gold standard).
Speedfan has a few more options so I use that.

really?? then i think it has a issue with the Opty and Expert. It reports my core0 temp as really off. It will shoot up to 50, then drop to 16 then shoot up again to like 40.

Speedfan and RMclock both reprot the same values, while coretemp is always off.

People at DFI-Street were reporting the same problem with simular setups. To make things short, it was just recomended to use AMDClock aka RMClock to monitor core temps.
