How do you know if your car is running lean?

While switching batteries... i noticed a plastic housing that's supposed to keep snow from getting in the ducting to the air box... since it never snows here in Los Angeles I just took it off ...now how do i know if my car is running lean without having a diagnostic computer or having to go get a smog test. It's not misfiring or anything... i doubt what i did would fvck up the mixture so much that I won't pass the smog test... unless i'm wrong and i get labeled a gross polluter... 🙁 it's a 1990 dodge spirit by the way... 2.5 4 banger.

As long as you didn't pull any sensors, you won't have any problems with the car's mixture being off. You also won't get any measureable performance increase from having removed the housing.

Well my car isn't knocking... and although i can't accurately measure the heat inside... i guess i't's ok. As far as performance increase is concerned... the way the airbox is designed is so restrictive i don't think i'll see noticeable improvement unless i redesign everything or rice it up by putting tubes that stick out of the car... 😀 ...wasn't looking for any gains anyway... i just don't wanna be labeled gross polluter... 🙁
