How do you keep your gadgets safe?

My school yearbook just got some new cameras this year (2 s400s and a g3)? which are quite expensive, and the s400s are quite pocketable. So we're kinda concerned about the whole theft issue. We had all our staff sign away their lives? but we're still wary. Though the staff will pay for the cameras if lost, we would still like to avoid that. Plus we have people come into the office with the cameras aroudn...

So my question is: How can we keep these things safe? We were thinking engraving. Good idea? How much would that run? Where would you get it done? Trophy shop? Any other ideas?

Along the same lines, I have some pricy gadgets as well? but I would probably not want to engrave it, since I periodically sell them and buy new, better stuff. Ideas?

Keep them on a motion alarm system while they're in the office...if someone moves them then it'll shriek. In terms of keeping them safe when they're outside the office, either engrave them or take out some sort of mini-insurance policy on them. Are those types of things even available? I dunno.

Engraving won't do sh1t. Back in highschool we had the shop teacher use his soldering iron on the camcorders and stuff (to engrave), and they still got stolen.

Talk to your insurance company.

Record the serial numbers and keep them in your records (send in the warranty cards with the serial numbers!) in case they turn up in pawn shops.

Keep them in a locked cabinet when they're not checked out.

Have a formal check out process that's traceable, and FOLLOW IT WITHOUT FAIL!

And, unfortunately, ultimately you simply have to only check them out to people you trust, and you have to trust them to return the cameras.
