How do you interpret the word bi-weekly/bi-monthly

Let me put it in a sentence. Hope it makes sense.

When I lived in an apartment that backed up to a wooded area with a creek running through it I had such a problem with creepy crawlies that I had to kill a spider in my bathroom at least bi-weekly.

Every two weeks, fortnightly is a much better word. We should work harder to bring back "fortnightly" into everyday vocabulary.

semi-monthly would be 2x a month

I rarely/never use bi- or semi- as prefixes to frequencies because of the ambiguity.

But if someone else said it, I'd probably interpret bi-weekly as every 2 weeks.

Wrong. Twice per month is not the same as bi-weekly.

Bi-weekly=26 times per year
Bi-monthly=24 times per year

I get paid bi-weekly...which equates to every two weeks. Every other Friday to be specific.

I think it means twice a week, but assume that everyone uses it to mean once every 2 weeks.

I typically interpret bi-whatever as once every two occurances.
