How do you install the latest Intel .inf files when you have WinME?

Now, I know that the ATA100 drivers can be updated easily enough, but when I try to update anything OTHER than the hard disk controller drivers, I get an installation error. I've even tried Windows "safe mode" with no results. What's the trick for "infinst_enu"?

I've tried running setup.exe with Win98SE and all works just dandy, so I'm slightly bewildered.

There is a special procedure for updating system files in ME . . . the standard ME reaction is not to let you do it. If you know what the files are, then you can probably manually substitute them in DOS from a 98 Boot diskette and a DOS file manager such as XTree Gold.

1. Unzip the files.
2. Go to the file they're now stored in which contains the setup file.
3. Leave the file open...go to RUN in Start menu.
4. Type <Setup.exe -s> then enter.
5. Bob's your uncle.
