How do you install stepmania

I am a Linux newbie so I was wondering if someone could give me a step by step installation instructions on how to install stepmania. Because I have tried it and for some reason I get an error telling me that it "cannot create directory `/usr/local/man': Permission denied"

Using "su" gives you Super User (su) and root priviledges....basically it's a temporary mode that gives you full administrative rights on the Linux system (similar to being an Administrator on a Windows system).
 
I have another problem. It says:

checking for mad_synth_init in -lmad... no
configure: error: A working installation of MAD could not be found, which is
required for MP3 support. If you really want to compile without MP3 support,
pass the "--without-mp3" flag to configure.

I was wondering where I can find MAD program to download?
