how do you handle it when you HAVE TO get something done despite extreme fatigue?

You know when you've accumulated ten days worth of sleep deprivation(yes it's cumulative), have had 2 hrs of sleep the night before and you have a major task to finish? I am really busy with school, homework, neffing and night school. When I should be doing homework, I was neffing so I wasted my time alot. From the time I get up to time I sleep, I'm completely packed(minus procrastination so I don't sleep till 3 or 4). I'd be up by 7 or 8 next morning which gives me 3 or 4 hrs of sleep. Heck I bet alot of you've gone through this.. What do you do when you REALLY HAVE TO GET SOMETHING DONE, but you're extremely tired, sleep and your body feels like jelly inside?

Jerboy<--he is very farking tired 🙁

You sure it's cumulative?

Should I thus sleep for a year straight to make up for all the missed sleep I've had in my life? 🙂

You're getting 3 to 4 hours sleep???!!!! You lucky S.O.B.!😉

Speaking as a mother of a 2 year old and an infant, I'm exhausted all the time but I just grit my teeth and do it. There is no choice involved when it comes to caring for your kids.
What I DO try to do is make time for myself each day, as best I can, to rest, and replenish myself. Even if I cant actually sleep because I have to get up in a few, I at least try to lie on the couch with a drink for a bit, or read a few pages of a good book.

I also remember my University days(not so long ago, actually) I had to pull many all-nighters. Basically I would just get the job done and then be extra good to myself afterwards.

Good luck with your projects, take care of yourself and DON"T PROCRASTINATE! 🙂

Only do this on very rare occations: Go to the gas station, ask specifically for minithins. Eat 4. Wait 30-45 minutes. I hope you're ready to sleep after your task, because when you come down from that rush you won't have a choice. BTW: don't let your task be any more than about 5 hours or so.

Substitute 6 vivarin (3 each hour) if they don't have minithins.

Do NOT sit down. Make sure you are not hungry; if you are, eat, but don't sit down!
Do NOT turn on the computer unless you must use it for the task. No cheating and "I'll just take a quick look on ATOT".
Drink caffeine or grapejuice. Do not eat/drink sugar stuff--the come-down makes you more tired.
If you're falling asleap, do something physically active--run in place, jump on a trampoline, pushups, etc.

Ephedrine and Caffeine. I'm in law school, and I seriously feel that there aren't enough hours in the day.

The problem is that such a regimen catches up with you - if I regularly take coffee, I begin to require it to function.

Step 1: Fill your bathtub with hot water.
Step 2: Plug in toaster/radio/hairdrier
Step 3: Hold any of the above and jump into the tub.

That should pick you up....

ephidrine.

you're young, your heart can handle it.

*kat. <-- just be careful, she had a weeeeeee little problem with ephidrine at one time...

i either just do it, but sometimes there is a point where i can't even write my own name i'm so tired, so i go to bed and leave it undone

What I've found to work rather well (though not an option for you right now I suppose) is to deprive myself of coffee any time other than when I really need it, then to drink it before a paper or what have you.

Otherwise, depending on what I have to do, I can keep my concentration _much_ better if I have something like grapes to eat when I'm reading.

Probably little help, but it's what i know.

This is what I do when I'm moderately tired. When I said extremely tired, I meant you're so tired that walking in a straight line takes an effort.

Jerboy - I have Lyme Disease, which creates a lot of periods of exhaustion for me. Yet, I'm still determined to get through graduate school and not let it change my life.

The way I work through the painful periods is that I have a wonderful group of friends who know what I need to accomplish. Whenever I feel the slightest urge to give up and not work through the pain, I call one of them up, and they'll give me a pep talk, reminding me that I'll simply feel worse about myself if I waste too much time browing the internet, playing a game, or procrastining in any other way.

Then, they'll also call me back in 30 minutes to make sure I haven't slipped into doing one of those things.

LOL... if I'm so farking tired, I don't think I can come up with worth a sh!t of content for my paper..

Real easy........

Realize you aren't gonna get the task done and take your medicine. Learn your lesson and stop procrastinating by getting off the forum! You whine more than my 12 year old.

You need to learn to budget your time and get your priorities straight. You dug yourself into this hole, now dig yourself out of it or sink with the ship captain. Stop neffing.
