How do you guys with short attention spans pay attention in meetings

GoingUp

Lifer
I sometimes have the attention span of a goldfish, which tends to result in trouble when I'm in a boring meeting where people are droning on. Pretty soon my mind is wandering and I've missed a lot of whats said.

What do some of you do to help stay engaged with what's being said?

Thanks

This works for me too. That way, instead of having to actually pay attention to the entire meeting, you're focusing on the immediate subject. You can always toss the notes in the trash afterwards if they have no real meaning or value, but just the act of taking notes can help keep your mind focused.
I do it in class all the time during boring lectures, even when the subject matter doesn't. 😀

Well, I look in the other direction. This will usually piss off anyone who is talking till they post me up on it, and I can recite the last half hour of dialouge. After that Im gold, I usually talk to them afterward and let them know thats how I concentrate on thier speaking. Strange I know but it works for me.

I really don't. I start spacing out as soon as a meeting starts. I have tried taking notes, picturing funny hats on the person talking, following along in the information as the person is talking...it just doesn't work.

I usually just listen as best I can, then go over the information later on my own. I am not someone who learns by hearing at all.

I glance at the cutest chick in the room, then I think about sex. When I start loosing focus, I look at the cute chick again.

I agree, I've been in a lot of boring meetings that go on for hours and this has been one of the best "tricks" to help me keep focused on the majority of what is being discussed.

You have to keep focused for those just in case moments where someone might call on you to see what you think about what was just said.

I don't, seriously. I find that if I focus on doodling, I end up listening more carefully than I do if I'm watching the speaker.

Just imagine that the speaker is naked.

I do this except for any attractive chick that are in the room. Unfortunately there aren't any of those where I work, so most meetings I am jsut screwed 🙁.

No but srsly, where I work the 3 people who sit around me are 65, 67 and 67. And the is one woman in my trailer and she is upper 50s. There are really only 4 attractive chicks on the entire job site (1000+ people 🙁) and they are all in the one other section (IE: not the engineering sections).

We don't have worthless meetings. If you hear the boss yelling for you; you'r usually fucked so you better listen.

Drink coffee with cream and sugar in the morning, then in your meeting take coffee black. The bitterness wakes you up more than the caffeine.

I like my coffee like I like my women.
Ground up and in the freezer.
