How do you guys play MP3 on your home theater.

I've tried two methods and they both suck. First way was using a long rca cable (40 ft) to my home theater receiver. It sucked. Static all the time. Today I bought one of the Jenson wireless 900 mhz sender. That sucks also. I hear my music and my neighbors conversation on the telephone. Any good advice on how to listen to mp3. Next option is probably get a nomad.

You got it... get a portable MP3 player (or read on)... NOMAD wouldn't be my choice just yet though, they're still a bit expensive right about now... I'd go w/ a CD/MP3 player... you can just burn MP3s onto CDs and pop it into this thing and have it play MP3s 🙂 it should come w/ an optical out so that you can hook it up to your receiver and enjoy 🙂

The MP3/CD players are a lot more economical in my opinion - although , NOMAD does have some RAD features... your call though 🙂

I used to use an Apex MP3 DVD Player.. (Circuit City has em) anyway I got it because I needed a DVD player but it also worked good as a jukebox for MP3's..

In which case, Riskhk should just go ahead and get a damn PS2! It'll play his DVD... his CDs (that he can burn MP3s onto)... and play PS2 games!!
(Stop trying to get people to buy the damn PS2, GG! :|)

-Seriously though, that would be what I'd do - a PS2 has an optical input too - very sleek 😉 and it's made by SONY!

Ooh yeah, I forgot that the DC had a feature that would make a mem card/VMU thing an MP3 player/adapter?

What was that all about Richie - and how well does it substitute for the real deal - sounds interesting.. especially since the price of a DC is now 80 dollars... heck... 80 dollars for an MP3 player is nice - not to mention a bunch of AAA titles 🙂

basically you download the program and burn it and all your mp3's onto a CD. You can also make the CD self boot too but I just use a boot disk. I think its called gyp play or something like that. THere is also a VCD player but the dreamcast is too slow to play it smoothly
 
true apex is a good thing...but i dont want to throw away my toshiba dvd player right away after i just got it in the beginning of the year.

Hmm...cd/mp3 player that seems pretty feasible.

Haha ....i have ps2 already...actually my roomates ...i dont have the money for that...

I heard that there is a thing called audiotron by turtle beach. You hook it up to your lan and its a top box that connects to the receiver. You can access anything on the network. Its 200 dollars though. Kind of a crunch.

Any other recommendations.

Yeah, I remember playing some VCDs on the DC - Was watching Charlie's Angels - got kinda laggy after a while (sold my DC a few months back)... I remember reading about this MP3 device on the DC... would you consider going w/ Richie's idea Riskhk? sounds like a plan to me... a lot cheaper than 200 dollars if you ask me 🙂

how does using a coax cable clean up the signal?
 
the wire is shieled and it has a constant resistance (75 ohms i believe) ive had very good luck with it and its a extrememly cheap solution like 10 bucks for everything. give it a shot, if it doesnt work you can just return everything to radio shack.
 
oh i forgot to mention it has mostly to do with your distance, 40 ft of rca cabling is prone to pick up a lot of interference a coax cable will hold the signal properly but you will need a coax cable for every discreete channel so one for your left and one for your right (fronts and backs too if you have them)

40ft is way too far...lotsa room for interference...plus at that distance, if you are not using extremely thick cable...then it's even worse. I don't even think monster cables would deliver clean sound at 40ft....

Monster cables would, however, increase the clarity...but stilll 40 ft is a lot...

cable has to be THICK...and well protected/insulated...

Coax...would work better..but less discreet as it is tougher to work with (less maliable...is that how you spell it?)

remember...good insulated cabling.....

if you can reduce distance....

or Dell sells an MP3 receiver....check it out....never used it though....



With this much cabling though...Monster would be way to expensive of a solution....so maybe just buy an APEX dvd or any other that plays mp3s also....
