One day, while lounging around waiting for our material balances class to start, we saw a women on "To Tell The Truth" who ran listenhoney.com. For a fee, you could send a package anonymously with some hygene products (I know mouthwash was one of them) and a gentle note telling them of the problem.

I was stuck in a cube with a guy like that a year ago. He stunk, his cube stunk, his chair stunk, etc, etc, etc. He was a nice enough guy, he just made it difficult to breathe within a 20 foot radius.

Finally he got fired because he also happened to be a lazy bastard. Apparently he cried as they were walking him out. :( Felt sorry for him, but that's what happens when you're supposed to be taking phone calls & you instead put yourself in idle & take walks around the building.

As far as letting your case know that he needs a bath... Tell your boss to take care of it.

I hope he isn't one of those guys I read about that has a genetic problem -- they can't help smelling like dead fish. I really feel sorry for those people.

Been there done that
Spray some lysol, talk to a supervisor
Tell them you would like to remain anonymous and let them know about the problem, its their job to deal with that crap not yours.

We had a guy here that smelled EXACTLY like your decription. They talked to him about it several times, but to no avail. He finally go fired for something else thank god!

I wouls suggest you talk to the other employees and then you each talk to his boss so that he/she understands it is a REAL problem.

This all reminds me of a similar situation I had in college.

Having the only computer in the room, my roomate would often sit at my desk and use my PC. One day, I noticed a strange, sour smell coming from my pants (after about an hour of typing a paper). I thought, "What in the hell..." Febreezed them, and put on a different pair. Noticed it again about a week later, while at my pc. Finally figured out it was my chair. I febreezed it to death, and two weeks later, it was back. The smell would not go away. I swapped chairs with him, same thing. I knew it wasn't me, cause none of my chairs EVER smelled like that. It's permantly in the chair from what I can figure. I'm buying a compute chair next fall, and taking that one home and shampooing it 6-8 times before it comes back into my room (I'll be in the same room next year)

I used to work with a guy that was stinky and dirty. Shoot, we'd tell him he was stink and nasty to his face and it still didn't do any good. I gave him a ride home one day in my can and I made his stinkyself sit on a towel so he wouldn't get it on my upholstry.

Your cow-orker knows he stinks, you're not going to surprise him by telling him you think so, too.

If I were you I'd be careful with this one, approach your boss
about it but be diplomatic. The "fat guy" might have an illness
causing that rotting smell.
