How do you get your shower to the right temperature?

Usually, I turn my faucet to the hottest position, and when it gets hot, I'll turn the knob to the desired temperature for my shower. However, I know that many people turn the knob to their desired temperature and leave it until it gets to that temperature. Call me impatient, but I think my way is faster.

tilt the shower head away against the wall (so i dont get cold water on me) and turn the knob to the max temp. then adjust down.

i hate that cold water shock when you first turn on the shower.

I have very hot water and it comes out really fast. If I cranked it all the way to hot and touched it, I'd scald myself.

BTW: I've got handles. No knobs.

Are you the people who also turn the thermostat up b/c you think it will make the car blow warm air more quickly?

My shower heats up rather quickly, so I turn it on close to where it'll end up being (just the faucet part), get in, and then turn the shower part on and it's pretty close to where it will stay.

Most people don't have very smart showers so if you have it on half hot and half warm then it will take twice as long to get the hot watter compared to just the hot.

Turn it onto the desire temp, it warms up pretty fast (usually before i take my clothes off).

I turn the knob to my preferred setting while still dressed, then undress and by the time I get in the shower, it's at the right temperature.

I turn it on to the full hottness before I get in. Once it is very hot, I turn it down and then jump in!

The hot water is already hot in the heater somewhere in the building. The heated water takes the same path (and thus the same amount of time) to reach you regardless of whether the cold water is also running.

3) Climb in with her.
4) Scream as my skin is melted off by water that somehow crossed beyond boiling point.
5) Avoid being touched by boiling shower stream until she gets out.
6) Enjoy reasonable water temps as the now drained hot water heater starts to run dry.

That or option 'B' you gave. Since our hot water heater is two stories below our master bath I actually bring the hot water up by turning on the sink to my desired temp first. It wastes a little less water than letting the shower run full tilt.

Hmm, used to do all the way hot, then down to right temp. Lately I've found the right ~ spot so just put it there and brush my teeth.

The Logic or advantage to doing the all the way hot is you don't waste cold water flushing out the not-so-hot stuff from the hot water pipe. If you put it half and half the cold water is being wasted while the hot water makes it's way to the shower.

OTOH, if you do something else (outside the shower) while waiting for the water to heat up, you run the risk of wasting hot water. That's really only a concern if your HW Heater can't keep up w/ the demand.
