i just checked my FICO and its 781. i just turned 24, so i am aware this is high for my age, but i am a complete stats whore so i feel the need to crack 800. is this possible for someone in their mid-20s? what really differentiates between someone with a score like mine and someone with an 810? whats really funny is that my brothers score is 660something and he is 4 years older than me...telling him i would co-sign for his car if he bought me a new tv didnt go over too well with his dumb wife.

Yup. I'm in a similar boat. 23 and a score of about 775. Done everything right up to now, paying off loans, bills, rent etc. but it won't budge up. Damn!

One thing I heard recently, but didn't realize: never have more than 35% used on any card - *regardless of whether you pay the entire bill off at the end of the month, every month.

I was in the high 700s, probably around where you are at age 26.

How did I get there? NEVER HAD A CREDIT CARD and paid my bills on time. That's it. And I got a mortgage easily with a good interest rate.

Now at 32, I have an 810 credit score. One of the things that can help is getting a credit card at a store (source: credit rating agency). I don't understand that one bit.

Get your parents to add you as an authorized user. I now have credit history dating back to 1980 even though I was born in 88. Unfortunately they have an AMEX, so the "credit limit" is the highest balance. Right now they are "using" 60% of their revolving credit line. It's bringing my score down. I was over 800 for a while on the Equifax or Experian scores. The AMEX didn't report to the TransUnion thus my score is only 746 because of limited credit history (just over two years).

When I bought a car at 26, I was over 800. I had a couple credit cards that I'd paid off in full every month for years.

Except that once you get above a certain score, having a higher score doesn't do you any good anymore. IIRC, anything over 750 falls into the same category for most loans.

Last time I checked was when I was 21, and it was 748. I think like others said it is because of the length of history. Mine might have been hit just slightly because I had opened a card for less than a year when I last checked.
