How do you get the password to log on to Win XP?

Hi!

Recently i found a old Compaq Evo on a flea market for the low price of 6 dollar. When i came home, I discovered that Win XP Pro was installed. Unfortunately the only account had a password on it. So how can i access this account?
It would be great to use this CD-key another time. Since this computer have a really small amount of memory, i'm gonna install a Linux distro later on.

So how can i access this this Win XP account?

Do a Google for XP Password Finder - that will give you several options including free ones.

Contact HP/Compaq's tech support. Through their online chat, they have given me help for older machines, even those out of warranty.

The license for your OS is assigned to the machine so if that machine came with XP, re-installing it is not pirating the OS. If it came with an earlier version of Windows, all you have to do is establish that you are the legal owner of the machine. The serial number will tell them if it's listed as stolen. If it isn't their tech support people may help you.

Thank you and thanks for the answers The computer originaly came with Win 98 SE, but for now the Win Xp Pro is installed. I cannot reinstall Win XP because i dont have the CD key. Thats why I need a way to login to the computer .
Hmm, if it is to much work to get the CD key, I may just install Linux on it.

Look likes the problem is solved. I just tried the username as password, and guess what. It was the correct password ^^
