How do you get a Mobile XP to have a name in XP?

The OS just reports unknown processor. The Abit bios tool says the Bios is up to date. It's a NF7-S.

is your multiplier set to some weird value?

try running at something that is common to an actual AMD model (ex 11 with either a 333 or 400fsb)

My biostar board is doing that too but i've been too lazy to get around to updating my bios and see if it solves the little problem.

I don't believe you can get a name for a name for Mobile CPU's as they weren't made for regular motherboards. It is also not very likely that mobo manufacturers are going to ever add mobile CPU's to their bios'

My thoughts exactly. I noticed this also and brushed it off as a miniscual issue.

Ok, doesn't matter to methen. I am using a wierd combo 180Mhzx10, but I plan on going to 200Mhzx10 soon.

It's actually most likely a good thing as it will probably help with fraud. The reason the desktop bartons are getting locked is that some people were passing off 2500+s or other slower and cheaper XPs as 3200+s. The mobiles might be able to very easily hit 3200+ speeds with 1.65V, but the fact that it is not recognized and shows up as "Unknown CPU Type" will show you whether or not the processor is genuine or most likely over-clocked.

Are you sure? How about some optimizations like sse, 3dnow etc which the OS/apps talks to chip to see if it can take advantage of these?

that's built into the chip. use something like CPU-Z or AIDA32 to tell the optimaztions.

the 'name' of the CPU doesn't really matter.

AIDA32 picks up the Mobile Barton as Unknown but has a tick next to all the appropriate optimisations such as SSE.

I personally think it's kinda cool that Windows can't recognize the chips...it kinda adds to the whole mystique of running your computer much much faster than it's supposed to run.
