how do you get a haircut?

all my life my mom has cut my hair, but now she wants me to go to a place to get it cut.

how does it work? can I just tell them "keep it like it is" and they will?
and what if I want to get a different haircut? do haircuts have names, so I could tell them which one I want or something?
 
*Walk into haircut place*

You: "Yea I want my hair cut"
Her: "How?"
You: "I dunno, just cut it"
Her: "Sir, you realize we're a dog grooming shop?"
You: "Fvckit, it's $4 a haircut, just go at it"

All in all - if you have a particular style bring a picture in with you. Or if your hair is simple - like 1" on top, 1/2" around the sides in back just tell her.
 
Are you serious? Are you that much of a fvcking invalid that you can't get your haircut?
 
LOL, damn man. All you do is go in, have a seat. And tell them what you want done. Nothing to it. For example, I go in, sit down, the guy is like "How do you want your hair," and I say "Trimmed on the sides, a little on the top." Then they will ask you questions like is you want the back of your hair tapered or squared and if you want to keep your sideburns or not. They might also ask you how you "wear" your hair normally.
 
I tell them which blade to use for the sides ("1" being the closest shave like a buzzcut) but I always use a 2 now. Fade the back, and a half-inch off the top... it sucks, but there's no such thing as a "package deal".

Anyhow, when you go get a haircut, tell the stylist how you want your hair. Normally, they'll do what you want unless they know it'll turn out crap. After, ask if the cut you just got has a name, and tell them it's your first time getting a haircut from soneone other than your mom 😉

BTW, a salon is more of a "socializing" place. You don't just sit there like a robot and get your hair cut. Talk to your stylist, because they'll try to talk to you too.
 
i just ge my wife to cut it. why pay $10 for someone else to do it? all it takes is uses the electric clippers. i get it about 1/8th inch cut.

I wholeheartedly endorse this statement. WTF, the OP's mom should be strung up for not equipping him with the basic knowledge to accomplish this task.

I hate it when the stylist tries to "chat it up with me." Whee whee i don't give a fvck about you grandson or what college you went to, just concentrate on my hair dammit

also, fortunately I'm only 17, not 41

I just posted because I was a little worried that if I go in there for the first time and don't know at all what I want, they'll just give me a crappy butcher that will be with me for a month or so.
 
I try not to piss off the person cutting my hair.

Its nice when you find a regular stylist to go to. Then you don't even have to say anything. They know just how you like it cut....like YOUR MOM!!
 
while you're at it and your mom is telling you to go engage the world ..

tell her you notice that other people have laces on their shoes and you have velcro. ask her to get your a pair of those ' laced sneakers ' and have her teach you the BUNNY EARS trick to tie your shoes. but then again ... there's nothing wrong with velcro!

Just go in and tell them you'd like a Mullet cut. There, that should do it. 😉 😉

 
I used to just say number 2 on the sides, and about 1 inch on top. Now that I realized that I can just buy a trimmer and do the same thing for free, I don't go to the barbers anymore.
 
Every time i check out off topic i find a thread i just can't bring myself to believe to be serious. This one qualifies for this time around. You really did ask "how do i get a haircut"
 
Step 1: Go to google
Step 2: Locate a picture of Leonardo Dicaprio
Step 3: Print picture
Step 4: Show the Asian lady the pic and tell her to cut your hair like that.

Do you want to get your present style changed?

If so, then go to a stylist. Maybe pick a picture out on the wall or in a magazine.

Otherwise, just tell a barber that you want the same style and that it's been [blank] since you had your last haircut that your hair grows fast or slow.
