Secured card is a good and likely start and some have had success with department store cards. yet others get their start on used car loans at exhorbitant rates. You would do well to avoid that approach, however.

The easiest way is to go to college. When you're a student, they'll offer you all sorts of credit cards.

Secured credit cards are so stupid. "Hey, I'll give the bank $300 so that they can charge me to lend it back to me!"

Secured credit card, put a deposit down.

Yep apply for a SECURED CREDIT CARD

You deposit $500 - $2,000 into a savings account which earns interest, your account is FROZEN (you cannot withdraw from it) for 12 months, your credit card uses your savings accoung as collateral.

There is a 99% chance that you will be APPROVED for a secured credit card because there is zero risk to the bank. If you stop making payments, they open your savings account and use those funds to satisfy your outstanding balances.

Make all your payments on time, 12 months later you get back your original deposit PLUS any interest you earned, re-apply for a REGULAR cc and you'll be approved.

Maybe this is why you were turned down. Save the required money and start one of these secured cards. This is the best way to get good credit.

Fprget the secured junk. Go to sears, jc penney, etc... and get a card from their. Use it 2 or 3 times and pay it off in full. Wait 2-3 months after paying what balance you get and then apply for a discover card or any other major one. That is how I did it, just NEVER miss a payment.

I did that and I now have 3 plat. cards rangeing from 10K to 30K each.

Capital One used to offer a secured credit card with $99 deposit.

Not sure if they still offer it or not but you can try, call Capital One at 1-800-548-4593
