How do you feel about tiburons?

For some reason, i really am digging the look of an 03+ Tiburon. they look very sleek and sporty for a very reasonable priced car.

Me and my friend were having a discussion, he thinks its a chick car, and thinks the scion tC is a more "manly" car, while i think the opposite.

im seriously thinking about getting a Tiburon, i need to find out if they have a sport package, I'd like to also spend around ~10k

are there any other sport"y" type cars around that range you would consider?

-also don't flame, but i can't drive a manual, but im willing to learn and get the general concept, also im assuming its a must for a sports car to have a manual ? will my insurance go up from say a 2005 VW passat?

A Scion isn't any more of a "manly" car than a Tiburon and I'd grade both those cars with the same "manliness" as a V6 Mustang/Camaro or an Eclipse or Celica; ie: none. In fact both are very popular "boy racer" cars. The Scion tC does have an official Toyota supercharger addon however, but all it does is bring the power up to a level that is still less than a stock Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Not very "manly" now is it?

Just be fair to yourself and try everything that interests you before you buy a car based on "love at first sight".

I wanted a Porsche Boxster S for years, and when I finally had the money I got a 2003 Cobra instead. Someone I know had a thing for the Buick Lacrosse for months, but test drove it and hated everything about it, and ended up with a Toyota Avalon.

Get what you want and have a passion for, screw what everyone else says.

Well I'd say they look more manly then TCs at least. I think they are pretty good looking cars. You live in Florida so get a miata.

I would, but the only people that drive Miata are people that date people of the same sex, and trust me, you don't want to driving a miata with the top down on south beach if your not looking for another dude :p

Exdeath, while i know they not might be very fast, but i'd prefer a car with a nice exterior and slower then a faster car with a fugly exterior.

I guess browsing tiburon forums and see the upgrades people do (Tuscani) does not help my cause :(

Pshh...I drive my merlot mica (purple for the average person) miata top down with my pink shirt on all the time. Some of the looks I get are awesome...

I enjoy the car for what it is... A sports car/roadster, I couldn't care less what others think of the car.

Why do you care so much? I drive around in my station wagon as a 24yo while everyone calls me an old man. Then, whenever we have a trip, I just pop the back and throw in 2-4 times as much as they can carry. I can also go a lot faster then the suv ones if i want to while attracting less police attention.

My roomy has the tiburon and it seems like a decent car. Hyundais seem to be where honda/toyota were 10-20 years ago and on their way up. Hatchback, so he can carry a decent amount of stuff, but hte backseat has little headroom (more then tc i think) but as driver, wtf do you care.

The 08 or 09 (i forgot) redesign is coming and looks really nice. Iono if you'd even want a first year design from hyundai (or any manufacturer).

EDIT: Go ahead and get a manual. I had to have a friend drive my new manual home from the dealer for me. The thing is, it is much more fun, but sometimes gets tiresome. You save money on the transmission, but then depending, you might have to pony up for a new clutch down the road anyway (more likely as your first manual car) and that negates the price difference.

Well if i got a manual, i'd be sure to get a warranty, clutches are expensive, and i would not have to worry about it :p

I'm not worried about the backseat, all i need is 2 seats, if my friends want a ride, then can squish back there, if not, take your own car! :p

I always liked the fish look of the Tiburon. I think it looks quite nice. But wasn't there some kind of problem with the recent model?

Used Hyundai are dirt cheap so I would assume it's the same with the Tiburon. Drive what you like and don't worry about what others think.

why would clutch be covered under a warranty, it suffers wear and tear. for my BMW is covered under the maintenance plan.

Real Men don't care if it's a "Chick Car". The only men who do are the Wusses who are "Real Men" wannabes.

It is: Rugged Individualism, not Pussified Conforming to Social Conventions. To be a "Man" is to be who you are, not what others expect of you.

The short answer: No, it's not a "Chick" car. In fact a "Chick" car doesn't exist. The true Man will take Any Car and make it his bitch!

I think they are ugly cars counting on people who like the looks of 1960's muscle cars. I hate the thick blocky retro look that seems to be the current fad. Second, it is a Hyundai, which has a poor reputation for quality. My nephew recently bought a 2007 model, prior to that they had two other Hyundai's which are in various stages of falling apart, an Accent and an Elantra.

As a point of reference the original 1964.5/65 Mustang was envisioned to be a grocery getter for woman. No one would call it a "chick car" today, because it helped usher in the muscle car era of light V8 equipped cars.

Drive what stirs your soul, and if you can't get that, drive what you personally want to drive. If you like the Tiburon, then rock it and make it your own.

PS I agree the Miata is a "chick" car, because I get attention from chicks all the time driving mine. Fun people are attracted to fun cars. So have fun out there!

it is the only hyundai that has decent resale value, so it's a disadvantage to you when you're looking for a used one.

well, "sporty" cars or rare cars in general have higher resale values: prelude, civic Si, contour SVT, focus SVT etc etc.

i actually quite like the focus SVT. i think it looks a lot better than the current generation focus, while also look better than the old civic Si, sentra SE-R, corolla XRS, etc. it's basically a poor man's mini cooper S.

I test drove the 2008 SE and wasn't too impressed with the power. It was a neat car with lot's of gizmo's, such as a torque meter that is mainly for your passenger to admire since it's located by the radio and such it's not in a very safe place for the driver to monitor it. I guess if you wanted to bolt a supercharger on it you would have a reasonably fun car but there are better cars out there for the money.

I do like the style even if it's trying just a bit too hard to look cool in attempt to grab the attention of every 16-22 year old boy. The interior is O.K but I'm tall so I felt a bit cramped with it's low roof.

It's not the worst car you can by, but if you are looking for the best bang-for-buck you should look at other new cars or look into getting a used car. Like others said though, get what you want and tell others to piss off.

I drive a Suzuki SX4, don't ask me why, I just like it.

My .02 worth.

I drive a First-Gen Neon swapped with a modded SRT-4 setup. Nobody respects it until I open the hood. Nothing at all flashy about the car to lead you to believe that just shy of 300 WHP is on tap. It's quiet, no flares or wings, no stickers.

Tiburons are a good car, but not much aftermarket support, and mods are espensive. As far as Tiburons being a chick car? About the only car that is truly a chick car is a car that's painted Mary-Kay pink.

Just my .02

i think your clutch will outlast whatever warranty you get, if it's even covered.

i'd suggest (like everyone else) to drive a bunch of cars in your budget then pick one you like driving.

clutches are not covered under warranty like brake shoes/pads.thing that are designed to wear out generally not covered under warranties. i had to replace mine on a 2004 Toyota solara because my son burned it up learning how to drive a stick.dealer wanted $1700 to replace it so i did it myself for the cost of parts.

Just get what you want and forget what other think. The only person you have to please is yourself.

scions are more of a chick car than tiburons trust me. Scions have puny 161hp while the new civics have 200hp and the new tiburon (gt?) 178hp. if you g35 buddy had to replace the clutch after 6 months, he was probably driving with his foot on clutch while driving or in a stand still position. Just learn to shift the car to neutral when you're about to stop, and get used to where the hook up point of the clutch is.
