How do you feel about tattoos?

Leros

Lifer
I don't care if someone has a tattoo. However, I think they need to keep it covered in a professional environment because not everybody agrees with tattoos.

My dad, on the other hand, is one of those people who thinks tattoo = loser.

I'm curious. What is your stance and why? Explain why you think tattoos are fine or why tattoos make you a loser or whatever you think.

not my style
nor is it my style to care what other people do to their bodies

do you think a person with a facial tattoo should not be allowed to work a white collar job?

I think some of our clients might look down on the company as a result. Unfortunately, that has to be taken into consideration.

I don't mind, even like, small tattoos in various areas. I just don't understand what possesses people to get full body tattoos, ones that cover entire arms, half of backs or even faces. So they are fine, should be hidden. They don't have to be, just don't be surprised when someone's first impression of you is negative.

I've only got one, on the upper right side of my chest, unless i want to show it it stays hidden.

Personally, i don't mind them, if they are classy enough.

I'm covered in tattoos. Mine are covered up by long sleeve shirts and pants. In a perfect world they wouldn't be required to be, but that's usually not the case.

Facial tattoos show an astounding lack of judgment and common sense, and for that rason I would not hire one unless he is an outstanding candidate in other respects.

How do you hire a facial tattoo?
Why would you hire a facial tatoo?

I don't want any, I don't care what other people do. But I find them a turnoff on women.

I remember a woman we hired a few years ago who had an unusual "GB" tattoo on her calf. I never asked her about it but I found out from someone else it was a Gin Blossoms logo.

I can't see where it's ever a good idea to get a band-related tattoo. You might end up with one from a band that was incredibly popular for about 5 months, like that woman did.

Indeed it is not.

I am a professional in a relatively conservative field. I have a couple of tattoos but they are always covered. Personally I don't think people in the office would care now but it ain't something you flash in an interview.

edit: I think this topic comes up every few months.

I have 5 tattoos and don't "show them off" at work, but don't hide them either. I love how I can get hired on to a job wearing long sleeves, wear long sleeves for the first month or so there, then start wearing short sleeves that show 2 full tats and 2 more peek out a little. I've never had anything said about them.

In other words, be VERY GOOD at what you do if you want to flaunt them at work and no one will have an issue.

I don't really have an opinion about tattoos. At least not an opinion on whether they're good or bad. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with them or insist that they be covered in most situations, though. It's just a kind of decoration after all. Then what really is there inherent in permanent body paint that makes it inappropriate for any situation so long as the image painted on the body itself isn't offensive?

I think tattoos are usually meaningless. If you tattoo your kids name on your ankle, fine. But people that got those tattoos on their wrists several years ago are now realizing it was a fad. Same thing with tramp stamps. I actually get turned off by tramp stamps.

Regarding those wrist band tattoos, today I tend to laugh at people that get crap tattooed on their neck. Recently, I saw a young kid with "Walk Wit Me" tattooed on his neck. My only thought was what the hell will you be saying to your grand kids about it?

"professional environment"
As an engineer, your intelligence impresses me. As long as there is not crap on your face, fine. IW ork with a guy that has a sleeve and I could care less.

Finance people are pretty much shallow and have an easy job. Sorry, you do. You better hide you tats.

You should add an option for "I don't care if others have tattoos at work, and even though I've thought about getting one I haven't seriously wanted to. And if I did I might hide it from coworkers because one never knows what things others might be judgmental about."

But I very rarely see tattoos that look awesome enough to warrant the permanence of the ink.
