Over-priced.

Not to mention you can't build your own and they're difficult/impossible to upgrade.

what exactly are you having problems upgrading on your mac?

The motherboard and the processor?

Processors are not hard, depending on what model you have motherboards are also replaceable. So I guess that take care of that argument, considering everything else used is pretty much standardized.

the processor isnt very difficult to upgrade

I guess I don't follow the Apple/Mac/whatever they're called scene much, if at all. Can you buy brand new cpu's now? I always thought you had to go to ebay or something awesome like that.

What about overclocking ability? Although I don't know why you would want to oc anyway, considering gaming is nonexistant on the mac.

Still overpriced for me. And I like building my desktops from scratch. Well, not scratch. But you get the idea.

I'd consider buying a laptop from them though if it was cheap enough.

I used a G5 at the Apple Store - I like. But I don't see myself owning one anytime soon unless I find a wad of cash lying around.

So eye-candy is now worth about 1 grand?

OSX looks great, but in my experience, is less functional and LESS STABLE than XP.

A PC equivlent is probably out, but not as OSX, rather a little thing called "linux"

You do realize that with a PC it is not required to run XP, right?

can u recommend a better OS?
2k, debian, redhat, mandrake, etc.

i dont even know how to run linux based stuff. also, what advantages does 2k offer over xp?
Stability, none of that bloated BS.

XP is pretty damn stable bro.

Also, Linux us NICE and very USEFUl...but it looks and runs Xwindows horridly compared to OSX.

Gnome with Scalable Gorrilla is close, but no dice.

well then MS is competing with themselves....Doesn't MS own part of Apple!?

Microsoft had a stake at one time(although it was more good-will and keep the DOJ off of us than anything else), but it's since been sold and the contract ended. That said however, Apple is far from pointless. Not counting ancient history, the introduction of the iMac sparked a pretty major computer buying spree, right when we were in the middle of the "asian contagion", and Apple has kept going from there. Apple is by most measures the biggest innovator of the industry(computer design, a usable Unix, iTMS, iPod, and hell, even Java on MacOS X); without them, the industry wouldn't be as advanced in some ways, and it would definately be hurting more than it is right now. Without someone to emulate, the big OEMs would have shot themselves in the foot a long time ago; this is the difference between Dell's idea of "outsource outsource outsouce!" and Apple's relitively "radical" idea of "introduce new products, hire more Americans, and build stores".

Pricey, but I played with a G5 at CompUSA. It's silent! The Cinema Display is still the best monitor in the industry. Same could be said for the iPod. And their laptops are the best looking by far. Apple is far from dead.

Like :
HL2

Jedi Knight
etc...

IMO if your not creating high performenca graphics, or music editing..then there really is no need for them.

ahh, but from my point of view, i don't game (an occasional counter strike, but i have a desktop pc also), centreno was heavyer, ulgyer, more expensive. Which would u choose?

A regular notebook and then with the excess money you save, get a spare desktop as well. How much did the powerbook set you back?

Mac's are great for designing. I have a 17" powerbook that I use for Flash, photoshop, Maya, etc. Macs just plain suck for everything else.
